No, it's not weird. It's the decent thing to contribute in some way, but it doesn't have to be cooking. There are many different ways to distribute housework.

When I was staying with my parents, my mother would get slightly displeased whenever I tried to cook. So I gave up and did some washing up/hoovering instead. Everyone was happy.
