The bubonic plague was significantly more lethal than the current pandemic. The plagues that killed most native Americans post-1492 were usually even more lethal than that. All of these involved the growth of international trade & empires that made it easier for epidemics to spread around the world. The bubonic plague came during the Mongolian empire & silk road. Smallpox epidemics on native Americans were during the growth of Atlantic trade / conquest of the New World. The current pandemic is spread by globalization / the American empire.
