Putting Sheldon and Penny together could have kept that show from sinking into a pit of over-sentimentality.
Yeah I didn't like that twist in Modern Family either it also seemed like they rushed it in because the show is coming to a close and they wanted there to be 'another generation' or something.

Some people heard my words and thought it meant they knew me
