If every other language was replaced with English, I would be out of a job.

Exactly. I wouldn't call myself bilingual, but I've lived in foreign countries and had to learn enough of the local language to communicate with people who didn't know any English. Some phrases just don't translate well into English - the nuance gets lost in translation. There's also research on the benefits of being bilingual.
