The zeitgeist in Germany is one of shame and self-flagellation, particularly when it comes to other races and cultures. That's the legacy of the Nazis to the German collective consciousness I'm afraid and therefore most are scared to say anything remotely bad against anyone of foreign origin.
The younger generation, who are more detached from the sins of their grandparents are going to be some of the most vocal against this over there. (this young girl for example) But they will have very little sway of how things are run or dealt with. I'm expecting to see a rise in extremist groups sadly - there's only so much suffering a populace is willing to take.
slow progress is still progress.
