Therapy Groups for Socially Anxious Teens (Ages 13 to 17) and Adults (18 and older) Opening in March for New Members Co-therapists: Gordon Street, PhD, and Lee Fitzgibbons, PhD We're seeking referrals of socially anxious teens and adults for the two therapy groups we started back in January. We're re-opening both groups for new members this month. The groups will then be closed again for at least six weeks and perhaps as long as 12 weeks (depends on how long members are willing to commit). The groups provide cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) including social skills training, cognitive restructuring, and exposures (both in-session role plays and between-session in-vivo trials). Each therapy group will meets once a week here at our offices (Anxiety Solutions) in Raymond, Maine. The teen group meets on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30PM. The adult group meets on Fridays from 7 to 9:30PM. If you know someone who might be interested, have them contact us soon. Before we can admit a new member, we need to conduct an individual intake assessment to determine if the client and group are a good match. We also need to schedule a few individual sessions to catch the new members up on the psycho-education aspects that ongoing members already got during the first cycle of the group. Our adult program is based on the social anxiety treatment we learned while we were working at the Center for Treatment and Study of Anxiety. Our teen and pre-teen programs are adapted in part from Biedel & Turner's Social Effectiveness Therapy for Children and Adolescents (SET-C), so it is not a "pure" group therapy but also calls for some individual sessions (at least once every other week) as well as a group activity once a week outside the offices (to be chaperoned by parent volunteers). We are willing to accept some new individual therapy teens and/or pre-teens, but we're actually pretty full right now, so we'd rather that those teens or pre-teens who already have therapists continue working with those therapists while doing the group. We would like to communicate and coordinate interventions with their individual therapists so we support each other in providing for our mutual clients. Our standard rate for 2 hour group sessions is $80 (for the teens and pre-teens) and $100 for the 2.5 hour adult group, but we do offer discounts on a sliding scale for payment at time of service as well as offer a 10% discount for prepayment (so we don't have to collect payments at the beginning of each session). We are also now on the Anthem BC/BS provider panel, and we also accept TriCare, MedNet, and Behavioral Health Care Program (BHCP).
