Self-talk is an important aspect, but is it adequate in itself (?) Part of CBT (called "compassionate CBT") is thinking about what how someone who is on your side would view whatever you are giving yourself a hard time about. Another aspect of this is thinking how you would view the same thing if done by someone else. Generally you are harder on yourself than on others in the same situation.
