Choline

Description:
Choline supplements are often taken as a form of 'smart drug' or nootropic, due to the role that the neurotransmitter acetylcholine plays in various cognition systems within the brain. Choline is a chemical precursor or "building block" needed to produce the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and research suggests that memory, intelligence and mood are mediated at least in part by acetylcholine metabolism in the brain. The compound's quaternary amine renders it lipid insoluble which might suggest it would be unable to cross the blood-brain barrier. However, despite choline's lipid insolubility, a choline transporter exists that allows transport across the blood-brain barrier. The efficacy of these supplements in enhancing cognitive abilities is a topic of continuing debate.

Social Anxiety Background
Always self conscious in public places, could never be myself or focus on anything else except the people around me and what they were thinking. Constantly depressed, always irritated and angry, could never catch a break from my own emotions.
Treatment Experience
I was recovering from anorexia at the time and lacked a lot of basic nutrients to begin with, after starting to eat normally again I was still very depressed and socially anxious, I decided to try some vitamins to help speed up the process of getting my body back to normal. This was the first one I tried and the day I took it I was going to the mall. The whole time I felt confident and had that "who cares what they think" attitude. As silly as this sounds, I was able to browse clothing racks next to people when I could never do that before. I would just stand in one spot and stare at something without worrying about how awkward I might have looked to anyone else around, I could ask for help without blushing or sounding nervous, as far as I was concerned this was a miracle supplement. I've considered the placebo effect but highly doubt it was that, I have tried many times before to act this way but was unable, I just felt different, kind of distant, and somewhat numb, but also confident, depression and anxiety had left me for the time being. The next day I was in another store and had an overwhelming feeling to start a conversation with the person next to me, I didn't though, but if she were to have talked to me I would have gladly talked back instead of blushing and trying to find my way out of the conversation like I usually did. Lately I've been taking 3-5 250mg tablets a day and noticed I have been getting really bad headaches, whether it's because of the choline or not I don't know, but it probably is. I found best results with 1-2 a day (at 95 lbs), I would imagine if you are heavier the mg should be higher.

I recommend this to anyone who suffers from SA, depression or bipolar disorder. It was $5.99 for 100 tablets, very cheap and worth a try.
