I have not heard of it before, but I just looked it up and I've seen things like that before, but never used one.
I used FL Studio for all of my stuff. I also had a little fun with some DOS "trackers" (I think it was called Milky Track and Fast Tracker), but they were too hard to use for someone who doesn't actually have a background in music.
In terms of FL Studio, it is great for beginners and you can get a ton of Virtual Instruments (VSTs) which is a really cool feeling because you can get a ton of instruments on your comp and it almost feels like getting them instantaneously delivered in real life. ReFX Nexus sounds really good, but it is not very customizable (it looks advanced, but it is not a REAL synth). Sylenth 1 was another one I used. It is a real virtual synth. I haven't made any music in the last couple years. I think it's mainly because the depression has taken my inspiration away.
