    Hi, have you taken propranolol for public speaking? I am unsure of what dosage people are taking, also over what period of time - I have a period of around 2.5hrs in which my presentation of 5-10 mins could be at any point, any advice? Thanks!

    Hi there,
    I hope it is OK to contact you directly. I found a posting you made about switching from prozac to zoloft. You had mentioned that prozac/zoloft is about .36/1. So, since I am switching from p to z and was on 35 of P...now on 10 of P and 62.5 zoloft...it makes sense that i am feeling bad and having withdrawals. The doc is doing a slow taper down on prozac and slow up on zoloft. About 3 weeks in I started to feel very irritable, anxious, generally miserable and whiny. I am assuming I am just not on enough zoloft....or maybe this is just withdrawal...discontinuation syndrome from the prozac? I appreciate any insight you may have. Have you done this switch before?
    Thanks so much!

    @Sadhu2: A normal doctor will tell you that you can't combine alcohol with phenobarbital. Personally back in my bad days I was prescribed phenobarbital + clonazepam + valproate and still was stupid enough to drink 6-8 beers. But my GABAergic tolerance was very high. It also depends if you drink all beers pretty fast or slowly over the day. Pheno is much safer than fast acting barbiturates. But never drink hard liquor like 1,5 bottles of vodka when taking pheno. Never drive even on Phenobarbital alone if that's possible for you.

    The most important thing is that you away from the alcohol. Use all help that you can get and also Google this anti-craving drugs: naltrexone, acamprosate, baclofen, topiramate ondansetron, acetylcysteine

    @MilkWasABadChoice : I am already a doctor now. ;-)
    @Leth1856: Lexapro (Escitalopram) and Sertraline are the best SSRI antidpressants IMHO.

    Hi. I like what you've posted - good knowledge. Long story as short as possible: trying to get off alcohol for 3 months lots of detoxes with lots of librium. After 2 weeks off alcohol and librium feeling good was hit from hell! Dr informed me I was going through librium wd. Made it 6 weeks started to feel better and dr gave me baclofen. Took for three days and was withdrawing from that BAD. So drank. Next thing I know I'm in hospital with bp of 168/115 and they give me ativan for 4 days. Wd back so dr says no more tapering go inpatient was in detox for 11 days where they gave me phenobarbital. Survived out on sat and was feeling pretty ok until today - bad wd hit.

    So. Drs in detox told me I may have a couple bad days after leaving but things will get better as my bp went down quick etc. but like an idiot I was so bad today I drank 8 beers and of course hasn't really helped but made me drowsy. I know my gaba is all f'd up but will these few beers throw me back into hell tomorrow?

    Hey Medline, haven't seen any activity on the forums from you lately. Hope you're doing well. Are you in med-school yet? Is it weird that I actually imagine you as J.D. from scrubs? Great show!!!!

    Used short term or as needed they can help a LOT, longer daily use is pretty problematic (tolerance / dependence...).

    When you look up lamotrigine + eye in Pubmed you just get 28 results. Two animal studies show the drug could in fact protect retinas from toxic drugs. The conclusion of one small human study is:
    No irreversible visual field impairment in patients treated with LTG was encountered, although a dose-dependent retinal toxicity may have been present. The exact cellular mechanism of the electrophysiologic changes in patients taking LTG remain to be explained.

    If you're taking Lamictal and have any visual problems go to a ophthalmologist.

    The one anticonvulsant that comes to my mind when talking about serious eye trouble is the GABA-T-inhibitor vigabatrin (can damage the optic nerve).
