Hello :) I am really glad you reached out to me because I never know how to start conversations with people! I would be really interested in talking to you about work...its always nice to know there's SOMEONE out there who understands why I feel the way I feel about my job! So..I guess you know about my job...want to tell me a little about yours?

I can really relate to your pessimistic self evaluation... unfortunately. It helps me to figure out where I'm at (sad wise). Thanks for expressing yourself.

Haha, that's interesting! I would think that group would be the hardest as well. I hope it gets a bit easier. At least you should be able to face that fear easier over time!

I get anxious/uncomfortable when I have to make them pay attention and actually do their work. Some of them just want to be on youtube the whole time or try to quit early to use the computer and I have to be the grown up to get them to pay attention. I tend to be a passive person, so this is definitely the hardest part for me!

If I wasn't used to it thanks to Korea, it would also make me nervous when they're just talking to each other in Somali and I can't understand anything. But I'm ok with it since I've gotten used to it :)--I can also usually tell if they're talking about me vs. something else, so that helps too.

I hope you had a nice Christmas!

Thank you for the compliment and kind words :) I'm not where I'd like to be, but I'm a lot better than I used to be! Haha, I'd love it if my karma meter could be full!

I get what you mean--I feel that way sometimes just by learning about it through my major. I'm sure that I'll end up working for either the Korean or US government sometime in my life.

Ah, yeah that makes sense, those most of them would come through court orders. It must be really frustrating seeing those kids and wanting to help them but not being able to.
Do you feel anxious before going to work or is it semi-comfortable?

Wow your life sounds really interesting! (not being sarcastic, I promise) I'd love to hear more if you don't mind sharing. My major is International politics and culture, so you can see why I'd be interested. Not too mention my love of psychology and helping others.

I was in the hospital (voluntarily--I checked myself in) in patient and out patient when I was 13 for severe depression and wanting to commit suicide.

Oh interesting. Sounds like you're the kind of person I would have worked with when I was in the hospital a few years ago.

What did you major in and what did you do before getting that job?

Oh not IN Somalia, haha. They're refugees that are settling in the US. I'm tutoring middle and high schoolers.

I want to work with North Korean defectors/refugees in the future as my career, so I'm hoping that will give me a lot of experience and insight. I enjoy it :) Although I must admit before I get there I feel like "ugh I don't want to go" but it always ends up better than I think it will.

Yeah I would guess so---it probably depends on how much the kid(s) that you're working with actually want to get better and improve. What kind of stuff do you do there, specifically?

Oh wow! What's that like? That sounds like it'd be pretty fulfilling.

I'm a college student--volunteering right now with Somalian refugees before I go back to Korea.
