    That's nice to hear Erroll.
If you're anywhere near Europe, I think we should have a beer sometime. The kind that the man in your avatar has. That would be rather neat. You have "lovable" written all over you.

Would you share a picture of your flower bed? I could sure use some advise on flowers, especially on attracting beneficial insects with them. Which climate zone are you in?

Since you're also interested in neuroscience, I must ask, has Thomas Metzinger already "happened" to you? In a way I can devide my life in the period before and after I read his book. It may very well be the most mind-blowing stuff I've ever come across. I'm not sure if it's helping me now though.

If you have any must read/watch suggestions for me, I'm all ear! I'm higly suspecting you of having some gems up your sleeve. I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment, but I'm certainly going to visit your "about Me" section. I'm looking forward to get to know you better.

That's a bummer. I like your avatar anyway. The man looks like he forgot about the possibility of rejecion entirely while remaining his dignity. Miles ahead of the crowd. My sort of role model. It's either that or my imagination :)

Back atcha, Errol :) Why do you think I am always so pleased to cross paths with you on the forum? ;) Only you are far more patient than I am. Do you ever find yourself irritated by stuff? How do you cope with it? I don't think I have ever seen you lose your cool composure.

Well, I think you're definitely on a right path there, Errol, and I am glad to have had the pleasure of crossing it :)

The handle? Ummm... yeah... that's a long story. Or maybe not long but boring. Put it this way, at some point in February, I realised I was on a wrong path. I didn't quite like the person that I was. That account reminded me of the side of me that I desperately wanted to change, so I got it closed and tried to start afresh. Now I know that it takes all sides of me to be who I am. For better or worse, I must embrace the good and the bad and learn to live with it.

It's a fine balancing act but I think I'm slowly getting better at it. :)

    Hi Errol

I don't know why it's taken me so long to leave you a message but I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your posts and presence on the forum. There is a quality to your posts that just gives me hope. In them you come across as someone so kind, warm, and generous in spirit that my heart simply melts. This matters to me and, I am sure, it matters to many with whom you interact there. Now, there may well be some board somewhere where you let your dark side shine :) but for now let me just say - thank you for being the kind of person that consistently makes me want to be a better person myself. :squeeze

    Hey,

Thanks for the link. Wow it's a free book! Here's one in return

    https://www.coursera.org/learn/how-things-work

It is a free course on elementary physics from U of Va.

So what is energy? It is as physical as a lightning bolt. But defining it as 'the ability to do work' leaves you with no picture of just what energy physically is. How would you describe energy, maestro?

But I think the space we know is purely a mental representation of something. Maybe something to do with energy and entropy. I wonder if perceiving order is anything indicative of natural order, or if order and entropy in general are purely mental constructs. Any thoughts?

Well, I'm not sure if it is something to do with energy, as energy isn't anything physical, just a property of matter, like length. Entropy is defined as "a measure of the number of specific realizations or microstates that may realize a thermodynamic system in a defined state specified by macroscopic variables." Got that definition through Wikipedia. As entropy is just a measurement, I guess it is a mental construct? I'm not sure.

Oh, and yea I knew that about relativity. It's very interesting to think about. Sometime I might try making videos debunking this guy, who seems to think that relativity is false (https://debunkingrelativity.com/).

"So we might say space and time are different for different people undergoing different rates of acceleration. So how can space and time have any basis in physical reality, when they are the product of a person's point of view; when what they are depends on the consciousness who is measuring them; when they differ when seen from different perspectives? Doesn't it make sense to think of space and time as a product of consciousness reading the environment?" Damn, this is a very good point.

"We know space and time can speed up, slow down, bend or stretch. So just what the hell are they then? Just what is it that our 5 body senses read as space and time?

How can time speed up, slow down, bend or stretch? How can space speed up or slow down? Were you referring to the expansion of space? Furthermore, how can space bend?

Time, I'm also not sure about. It could be said that it doesn't exist as well, just all in our heads. I've heard some definitions before, such as "the passing of events", or something along those lines. But then again, maybe the concept of space-time does prove time and space exist. I'm not that educated on relativity yet though.

Oh, tough questions man. I think space could be the lack of matter, nothing that actually exists. But that is challenged when you realize that space is seemingly expanding. If it didn't exist, then it wouldn't expand. Also if space is the lack of matter, then objects that "take up space" remove that space from existence. That means you could change the status of space existing just by taking it. That begs the question, did it really exist in the first place? The again, how can we have space if it doesn't exist? Does this depend on our definition of existence? I guess we can throw away that definition for now. I have no idea what space is lmao. Do you have a satisfying definition?

Oh yes, physics is my favorite. I have my own textbook that I study out of a couple times a day. Sorry, I'm not sure if this was the correct method to reply to visitor messages, so if you don't receive a notification for this I'll just pm you lmao.

    I'm happy you're happy, Erroll.

I've tried various medicines with a variety of effectiveness but I can't take any anymore because they interfere with my level of oral comfort. They all cause pain in my gums, and some cause grinding which makes it so much worse. Taking medicine is not an option anymore because of that but that's okay because I've already taken all the medicines I could want and know their effects. I don't have much chaos anymore. Life is rather orderly now.

That's curious about inflammation getting in the way of dopamine production. I don't believe in pointing to a physical reason for depression because it's all physical and emotional; everything is tied together and it's like asking which came first, the chicken or the egg, you can treat it any number of ways.

I'm attracted to smart, creative, nice people. That includes a lot of people. I like when people do art. I dislike elitism of all sorts.

What type of people do you find interesting?

Yep, have a dorm mate, the school matched us. I don't mind socializing at all; it's just barely anyone either doesn't want to (with me) or it's just one sided conversations. And yep, even though we're both new to the college, he already has a few friends on campus. And lol, he'll prob do the same with me at some point.

That's okay that I felt awful because then I started talking to you and I felt better. My moods don't fluctuate wildly like they once had. I realize I have no reason to feel depressed or especially happy and I'm okay with that.

I like watching parents and kids, too. I think the types of people most interesting are not around anymore. I don't know many people.

I was just greeted by a fellow library patron who comes in with his son and I said good then but not long after that I feel awful. How are you, Erroll?

I knew about the fox thing but not the name of the person. The fox thing makes me nauseated. I'd rather not talk about it which is why I had not replied.

It's good to see you, Erroll.
