Default Told my mum I have SA and she understood!

I read the Triumphs over Social Anxiety section everyday, because it gives me courage to know that other people have actually beaten SA sometimes. But this is the first time I'm posting here myself!

I'd mentioned to my mum several months ago that I was going for therapy because I have 'confidence issues' and she hadn't liked it because, and I quote, 'WHat if people find out? They'll think your crazy!' I guess it was also hard for her to accept because she's so confident herself.

I hadn't said a word about it since, and she never asked.

Then today I sat her down and poured it all out. I used words like 'abnormal perception of reality' and rattled off some drugs used to treat SA. I gave her some examples of situations where she must have noticed I couldn't behave normally. And I finally convinced her that this is 'a real problem'!

She was kind and supportive, and I feel great! It is such a relief that now I have someone at home that I can talk to!

It's always good when family understands.
I know a lot of people have parents who do not understand and this causes them to worry more and become more stressed.

Do any other family members know about your SA?

No, I've never told anyone. I tried to tell a friend but she didn't take me seriously. The people on this site were all I had.. till now

That's so great to hear that your mom was understanding of the situation.
