I've been wanting to volunteer with them for a long time, but was always too afraid. Well, after a fight with my dad tonight lit a fire under my butt, I decided to go ahead and send the volunteer coordinator an e-mail expressing my interest in volunteering.

I'm pretty nervous, as I've never volunteered before and the social aspect scares me (especially the comments "Why don't you talk?" "You're really quiet" etc.), but I've wanted to do this for forever and once I go through orientation I'll be able to.

At the very least I made the effort to reach out and let my intentions be known!

Good job!!! I'm proud of you, we need more people like you to volunteer for the humane society. I wish the best of luck to you, let us know how it goes, and take some pics if possible so you can show and tell

What does the Humane Society do exactly? I could look it up, but, I'm lazy and looking it up online by myself is not being very social is it?

Haha... they take in cats and dogs and try to find homes for them. They also do fundraisers for the animals and presentations about humane animal treatment.

That's just off the top of my head.

I have always wanted to volunteer for the Humane Society, too, but I think I would fall in love with all the animals and end up adopting a houseful of pets. That's great that you reached out and made an effort, I'm sure volunteering there will be really fun!

I felt the same way when I saw the video produced by my local Humane Society:

1:03 shows two kennels full of puppies!

I got a call from them Saturday in response to my e-mail. I avoided returning the call (dumb, dumb SA) for a while but tried calling them yesterday. The director wasn't there though. I get to try again today after 12. I'm excited.

This video was obviously edited and everything but it's made me feel more comfortable with the idea of going there and volunteering.

Good luck with it! That's awesome you are going for it. I'd love to volunteer at a place like that.
