Default First Patient

Okay so I started volunteering at the hospital last month, for the American Cancer Society, and you have to train and train until you actually see a patient, whenever a new patient enters the hospital. Last week there was a new patient but I had to have my trainer go up with me and I was just an observer. Today I was on my own and I was very anxious at first, more then usually probably because I had drank four cups of coffee and hadn't eaten anything yet. But there was one new patient in and as soon as I entered the room he started cracking jokes so that made me feel more comfortable, he was an older man in his 60's and I had to take statistical information so when I asked for his phone number he kept asking for mine. I think his being funny and flirty helped break the ice a little and it makes me think I could actually do this without freaking out...maybe...quite possibly we'll see how it goes next week, lol

That's really great that it went well with your first patient. Hope it goes great next week too!
