Default Teens with SA

I'm not trying to be offensive here or piss people off... but I've noticed a lot (not all) of the younger people here are the emo/artsy/japanese cartoon thing/black everywhere type. Not that theres anything wrong with that, its your life do what makes you happy, but does it make any teens/20 somethings mad when people/your family automatically associate you with that since you may be slightly depressed and have SAD?

Again, I don't think theres anything wrong with being emo/artsy/japanese cartoon thing/black everywhere but I personally would NEVER be interested in that stuff. It just pisses me the **** off when people think that I or anyone else who may be depressed or anti-social is emo or spends all day on their 89723470923 megabyte computer.

Anyone else feel like this?

Its probably just me and my constant irrational thoughts of peoples opinion of me... Looking back when I typed that message like 20 mins ago I am just realizing how irrational my thoughts are lol. No one has ever called my emo/goth or geeky but I still constantly think people have that opinion of me

Personally, I avoid labels and cliques and hold on to my individual status.

I've been told that I always look sad or mad. I think concentrating on my anxiety makes my facial expression change to that. I'm not called "emo" though.

I don't see how SA can really put you into any of those, most families probably don't even understand half of those groups and having SA isn't enough, now if you cover your wall in anime posters, use random Japanese words, wear all black, talk about how bad you want to kill or cut yourself then yea, you might get put into one of those groups but I have seen plenty of ultra shy( maybe have SA) that can't automatically fit into those categories based on their public appearance(or lack of in this case) and the thought never crossed my mind.

I'm in no way a emo. I don't wear skin-tight pants or wear make-up on my face. I also hate punk soo...guess I'm ruled out. Seriously though, I don't fit any profile. I'm just so different.*sighs

I was never a fan myself. I think labels only bring more division than that's already here on this damned planet.

I don't fit in to any kind of group. I'm just "that quiet kid" . Besides having depression or SA does not mean they are emo or anything. Most emo kids just pretend to be depressed for what ever bull **** reason.

Hey i listened to goth rock !

I'm not a goth, i do have thoughts of going goth though but i felt it would look weird on me and everyone is going to look at me funny which would just worsen my condition.

Having SA does not mean one is anti-social or emo. My classmates thought that i was a loner(anti-social) because i didn't talk much and ate alone....but i could be called the nerdy quiet kid too.

Um... sometimes people call me emo because I b**** too much about how crappy my life is... and the black everywhere thing is how some people like to express themselves since black = negative emotions = what we are feeling.. idk.

I think it's a lot harder to make friends when you DON'T fit a certain stereotype. When you don't have a group that you're a part of.

I'm the japanese cartoon thing, maybe. But only on the inside.

I went through a goth phase back in late middle school/early highschool. Not really following any clothes style right now just whatever I like. But I still have a bit of a fondess for gothy things. Was into anime stuff when I was a kid too. Only I'm pretty sick of anime by this point. I just lost interest for the most part.
Currently I'm artsy and proud of it. Art major.
I didn't know that there were SA sterotypes, but I dont really give a damn if there are. I am what I am and I'll like what I like.

So there.

I'm kinda like that, I have to admit. But it's not like I mean to. People always think I'm mean and goth and everyone always says, everyday, that I look sad or that I'm giving them a mean look. I wear black clothes and stuff. But art is something I actually really love, not just cuz I'm shy. But I am what I am, what CrystalBear said.

I love sports, cars, parties, etc. I dress normal. Most of my complaining is about not being invited to things, not knowing people, and screwing up in social situations. I'll take going to a social event (as long as I at least know a couple people) over sitting at home 4/5 days. The one day is for recovery, because social situations can be quite draining sometimes.

When have you ever been told that if you're not talkative you're automatically emo? I never talked much in high school because of the SA but I was still considered normal.

I'm far from emo... I'm actually the antithesis of it. I'm usually a pretty happy guy, athletic and smart, wear preppy clothes, etc. I've modeled for three of the preppiest clothing lines to top it all off. Popular in school despite my SA which I try to hide and do a pretty good job of. I've always got a great excuse for going to the bathroom to vomit or not eating a lot at lunch.

I really don't think having this disorder makes you emo or whatever. I just think that parents are more likely to check their kid out for a disorder like SA if they are emo and lock themselves in their room. I'm too scared to tell my parents about my SA and they would never suspect that I have it, so I've potentially gone undiagnosed for a long time. I don't think mine is too bad but it definitely lowers the quality of my life, though not enough to 'go emo'...

Im not really aware of other peoples opinions on me. I tend to be rather oblivious of EVERYTHING around me. A way I deal with anxiety (effective to, at least in situations where im not directly interacted with).

But.. I don't enjoy anime, like japan, etc. Ive been trying to find a word for those people, as there doesn't appear to be a 'stereotype' name for them yet.

To be honest, if anything, I think I may be labeled as "The creepy guy who stares at the table for half an hour during class"
