Default Why Do People Take So Many Fricken Pictures?

Looking through facebook I'm really at a loss of words. Honest to God, people will go out for one night and accumulate 40 or 50 pictures in the process. "Here's me with my arm around Mel sipping a drink." "Here's me shaking Jake's hand at the bar." "Here's me taking a shot."

Its certainly their right to take a lot of pictures and who am I to say they shouldn't, but what the hell do you do with them? I look at old pictures of myself and get bored immediately. There are some exceptions, but the fluff that gets photographed obsessively by the college crowd/20 somethings couldn't possibly be any less interesting to me.

I never really understood the obsession either. I can take one or none and be happy with that.

That's what I used to think.
A very close friend of mine passed away a recently. We set up a page to remember him. People has been uploading photos of him. A lot of us has been looking through these photos and reminisce about the past.
*knock on wood* Not that I hope something will happen to these people, years from now, people will get separated. But you'll always have the photo to remind you of the good times.

Go on,
grab your hat and fetch a camera.
Go on, film the world before it happens

I like looking through old photo albums of my childhood and that.

I never take any though. I bought a digital camera when they first came in, and don't have 1 photo to show for it. I just find photos a bit "throw-away" these days. They're so easy to take/don't have to develop them, and usually just end up sitting on the camera for 6 months until you delete them. It's the same with all digital media. I d/l a heap of music or movies, but never actually listen/watch them.

When you actually got them developed and put in physical albums, they seemed more special.

LOL I know what you mean heehee. Yeah people take like 200 photos on just one night out and sometimes of one's every movement and some of the photos are just awful with people just pulling silly faces.
When I take photos, I like to take photos of when I am on holiday and photos of nature. If I take photos of myself, they have to be reasonable, I would never place a photo of myself on facebook or anywhere with me pulling a stupid face ugh.
I don't think if I did go out on a night out (specially if it's in a nightclub or something when I know the photos will be dark) I would bring my camera and just take tons of pics. I'd want to sit and have a drink
I think today the craze is to bring your camera everywhere and take photos of everything. When people are out on a night out, all they do I think is just take photos of each other and don't really talk.

I never understood the obsession. I can understand 1 grp picture for a day/night out, but besides that and professional photography, I would find taking pictures to be more of a hassle

i know what thats like, i always end up getting tagged in them on facebook, i honestly dont see the point.
Also, i have seen people on facebook having albums dedicated to pictures of themselves, topping over 100 photos of them.
its just silly

Most photos of nights out, on facebook = increase 'popularity' - 'look what I did at the weekend'.

That's what I think.

People don't sort them either, they upload them whether they're out of focus, blurry etc - and the ones where people are sat on toilets with their pants down...

I haven't been on facebook for months and I'm enjoying it!

Yeah, this is true. I remember I once went over a friend's house with another girl and the two of them sat there taking photos together for AGES and I was like...uhhh, hello? x_x

and narcissism. pure and simple. i feel like facebook is equal to a sort of fame/celebrity for these people. it is their own private tmz, people, us weekly, (insert hollywood gossip rag)etc. they become their own paparazzi.

i get an odd pleasure in seeing when people show up on the news for crimes or other embarassing things and they most always have a picture of them now from their facebook. even if you have your profile set private, search a site like peekyou.com and you can usually find at least one picture of anyone you know. scary stuff.

If you have an interesting life and interesting friends and interesting times, I can understand it. I have a fairly poor memory so I enjoy looking at the few pictures I have from my youth. I wish we had taken more pictures. I think it's good for people to be able to see their lives at different times. It may not seem important now but maybe someday it will.

lol i know right. who wants to do a photo shoot so openly in the public? i feel funny taking one, let alone hundreds in front of everyone. esp. all the bikini shots in crazy positions. i don't know how everyone is so open about it...do they care at all about their professional lives? only makes sense to do that if u get paid to model.
