Why are some people better than others?

How come some kids are born into families in war-torn, poverty-stricken countries whereas others are born into comfortable, peaceful societies?

How come some people are born disabled and others are not?

How come some men are 6'7" and others are 5'3"?

How come some women are gorgeous and others are hideous?

How come some people are popular and others are not?

How come some people are funny whereas others are lame?

How come some people are world-renowned scientific geniuses and others are born mentally retarded?

How come some people have it together and others do not?

How come some people have talents and other have nothing?

How come some people become legends and others fade to black?

How come some people are happy and others are miserable?

The obvious answer is "because life isn't fair".
But why isn't it fair?

Does anyone know the answer to this?

I'm not against God/ nature making some people/ animals/ plants superior to others, but I'd just like to know why.

I ask myself all of those things everyday. I don't have the answer, but it's nice to see that there's others who question.

I'm a Christian, so I say that is the way God made everything. Some people are more blessed than others. Why are they so blessed or not blessed? I believe only God knows the reason for this.

I think genetics answer quite a few of your questions, at the very least they offer a bit of an explanation. As to the big WHY? God did it; if that suits you. Some people find comfort in that.

I think it's more comforting to know that it was "random", in terms of probability. Meaning that some people just got lucky. Maybe it's not comforting, but at least it makes some sense. Now, making the deck work for you is more complicated. The important element of nurture allows us to make dramatic decisions and our powerful brains give us a considerable amount of freewill.

"Courage is not the absence of fear. It is acting in spite of it." --Mark Twain

I don't believe in predestination or "fate" so I doubt you'd care to hear my opinion on this.

I would like to point out that none of those examples you mentioned necessarily makes people inherently "better" than each other though.

A smattering of those things you listed are just random chance of genetics and nature, such as being born with disabilities and such.

Overall, human beings create their own problems. They're a flawed race. Humans decided to make an economic system based on mutual exploitation, where processes of exchange are undergone by a basic power-dependency routine. It's all give-and-take competition, rather than need-based preservation.

Everyone has something that is wrong in their life. There isn't anyone who's life is totally perfect. Maybe someone lives in a poverty stricken society, but then there's another person who has money, but they lost both their parents when they were 10 in some horrible situation. Like myself, I have a pretty comfortable life, two parents that are usually okay people, but I have SA, no friends, and random other problems. It's mostly about how you handle the negative, bad stuff in your life.

How come some people are born disabled and others are not? Same thing as I said above.

How come some men are 6'7" and others are 5'3"? same thing.

How come some women are gorgeous and others are hideous? Genetics, but being gorgeous/hideous are socially constructed ideas.

How come some people are popular and others are not? Popular people's lives aren't perfect either. They might be popular, but maybe they are a drug addict or drink to much and a bum. Like this one kid, he was one of the most popular people I have ever seen, everyone loved him for the most part, but he was secretly depressed apparently, and he died from drugs. Most popular people enjoy being around others, obviously, they have a different way of handling things I suppose.

How come some people are funny whereas others are lame? No one is lame, they are only lame if they make themselves that way. Like me, I can be really lame, but it's my own fault because I don't just act myself a lot of times, because of SA. Everyone can usually be funny if they act like themselves.

How come some people are world-renowned scientific geniuses and others are born mentally retarded? I think this is mostly genetics/random type of thing, honestly.

How come some people have it together and others do not? Maybe because those people that don't, aren't trying.

How come some people have talents and other have nothing? Maybe it's genetic or random, or maybe it just has to do with trying really hard at something.

How come some people become legends and others fade to black? That mostly has to do with society. Like, what's cool and what's not. What's popular, who's popular.

How come some people are happy and others are miserable? I think it's probably up to most people to either be happy or miserable. It's easier to be miserable than happy a lot of times, because there's so much to be miserable about.

shyness is nice, and shyness can stop you from doing all the things in life you'd like to.

When I think about issues like these, I'm tempted to believe in reincarnation. It's the only answer that seems to make any sort of sense to me. Otherwise, the universe is just randomly cruel.

I know that's probably true. As others have mentioned, it's probably just genetics and luck. But emotionally, that is very unsatisfying. It's like the old saying: "There are no atheists in foxholes."

P.S. I say that as an atheist myself.

The next time you fail, friend,
Straighten up and stand tall.
Far better that shame a hundred times over,
Than to have never failed at all.

Everyone is different and it isn't useful comparing people because of the differing opportunities they have. It's annoying, but just try to accept and appreciate what you have because it can't be changed.

Because everything happens by pure chance. Tall or short, smart or dumb, beautiful or ugly, it's all a complete accident. The genetic lottery is indifferent to our concerns, our feelings and our philosophy. The machinery of nature will continue to work as it has for billions of years regardless of what we think.

The person you are today, human history as we know it, is the result of millions of coincidences accumulated over the eons. Everything in life comes down to blind luck; probabilistic oblivion.

i think the answer to that one is pretty obvious. would you appreciate a sunny day if that's all you had?

but that brings up another question, doesn't it: why do we have to appreciate struggle?
i don't know... but i think we were created to want to fix things and if there was nothing to "fix", well...

People fail to realize that someone who appears beautiful with a perfect life has problems too, that those with a cookie cutter family on the outside may not be so on the inside. Everyone has some kind of issue or problem, just not all are visible.

Also beauty, happiness, whats important is all different depending on the viewer. What I find attractive could be ugly as sin to you and so on.

Asking why is pointless as we will never know the answer. Why do we have social anxiety and some people can walk into a place and instantly have fifty friends and be loved? The answer I think is accepting regardless of wanting it, its there and we need to accept it and work on changing it if thats what we want.

Because Life and everything else in the Universe is just Random Chemistry. Look to science for those answers. Study Chemistry and really think about it. It is the core of all that is true here on Earth and as far as you can Fathom. And is more complex than we can really fully understand. It's not about fairness or the convenient answers of religions its about the core of truth(matter, energy, interactions, etc)

I won't preach religion. I won't try to convince you im right. I'll simply say what I know as a Hindu. Two words: Karma and Reincarnation.

Things always have a way of evening out. Everything in nature and universe is constant and balanced. No matter how one much one argues, some people DO live a more comfortable and better life than others. I can assure you that as someone who has lived in two very different parts of the world. Why? Because of karma. A person's sins are bound to be equalized someway, somewhere and somehow. And similarly, his positive actions will be repaid. I believe stuck in heaven or hell forever isn't really an act of equalizing so there's reincarnation. You pay for your sins now or when you are reborn.

Either way, the act of giving and taking must balance. If you're a scientific person, you will have no issues understanding this concept since Math and Science they revolve around this phenomena. I love Hinduism for laying this out so clearly for me. I hope this helps you in the answer you seek.

Yep it isn't fair and I don't really have an answer for your question. But it's mostly all about being willing enough to overcome adversity and doing your best to bring yourself up to others level.
