Hearing this shocked me. How can a doctor only tell that to a patient who had been prescribed antidepressants and sleeping pill/anti-anxiety for 6 months and only tell her after all this time? If she really did not have the disorder and really faking it anyway, he could have known about it earlier like maybe 1 month I dunno and told her about it sooner, not taking 6 months! And to have been prescribed and ate all those pills when she didn't have the disorder, what was the doc thinking? Is she just another subject for his experiment to see how long she'd last having the pills despite not having the disorder? I find it disagreeable. Even if she was faking it she could have been told sooner! Which, I doubt that she faked it. Meaning, either case, the doc had no idea what the heck he was doing. I felt bad for my friend

Yeah that sucks when they won't believe you. Even worse when they tell the parents, because almost automatically, unless the parents know their kids very well, they'll believe the doctor.
Anyway the doc could have been using placebo pills? Does she know the name of the pills she was given? I don't have any expertise even in the slightest btw.

Wow, that really sucks. I wonder what makes him think she's been faking OCD.

He should be reported to the state medical board. I think that's the kind of misconduct that would carry consequences.

I hate doctors. I hate veteranarians. I know it must be difficult to diagnose things but I think they could do a better job. They always hear a few symptoms and then just throw out the most likely cause. They throw meds at it and see if it works. If the meds work then that must have been what you had. If they dont work then they try something else. Until they find what meds work. Whatever those meds were designed to fix is what you had.
Vets try to sell me everything in their cabinet. When I tell them no I get pressured over and over again. I hate being pressured to buy something when I know better. |

Is this friend under 18? If not, sounds like this doctor violated her privacy rights by consulting her mother. Technically, she is protected under HIPAA:http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/ She should get a second, if not third opinion. Unfortunately, there are a lot of "idiot" doctors out there...so, tell her not to give up!
Wishing you and your friend good luck!

even I too think they only want the money. Even per pill it must have costed some lot since it's not only an ordinary pill, it's an AD after all. The doc said it was Lexapro. Could it really be a placebo when he specifically said the brand name?
