Angry Self Checkout At the Store

I love self check-out lanes at stores. The super walmart where I live recently renovated and took out the self checkout lanes! Now I have to take my items through a register with an employee to ring up my items. Ugh and they try to make conversation and it makes the whole experience uncomfortable for me. I was so nervous that i forgot to give her my coupons! grrrrrr

aww that sucks. I love self checkout, usually theres no wait and your in an out. I can't stand waiting in lines because I get nervous as well, and my hands shake when giving cash or signing my signature. Hate waiting in lines, want to get in an out. I feel your pain.

i was buying err.... girl stuff the other day and was too nervous to go to the checkout because it was all guys so i used the self check out haha!

Funny this was, when i got to the front of the queue for the self checkout, there was a guy there anyway who started asking me if i wanted a rewards card.

Self checkouts are nothing short of awesome. Combine that with going to meijer around 1am, you're in and out of the store in about 15 minutes tops. Great timesaver.

I too love the self service at supermarkets My weird shopping habbits don't have to be scrutinized by a half-awake employee any more.

I left my shopping at a self check out and had to embarassingly walk back and get it and it always ****s up
"please remove item from bagging area"
"place item in bagging area"... x25
then the assistant comes over...
"is everything ok here then?"
"I don't know!!"

I'm not a huge fan lol.

Well, I don't feel so bad about doing the same thing now :P Only I didn't realize I forgot it till I got all the way back home. I looked in the bag and thought to myself, "Hmmm..that's odd...my dinner isn't in here...damnit!". That's what I get for hitting "Skip bagging" =/

Isn't this just making SA worse ? The more verbal communication I cut out the worse I get.

I've never used the self checkout. I'm too afraid I won't know how to operate it or I'll make a mistake and embarrass myself in front of everyone so I refuse to use them. I'd rather suffer through a few minutes of anxiety with the cashier than risk humiliating myself in front of strangers.

Dude, I'm scared of self-checkouts...never used one cus there's always someone standing at the podium near them watching and I feel like I'll mess something up on the machine. My sister got aggravated at me once cus I didn't want to got thru the self-checkout.....the employees at our Wal-marts usually just look miserable and say very little to you besides your price. Sometimes I feel sorry for them and actually do try to talk...very awkwardly, but still especially since I'm seriously trying to face my SA.

This happened to me. I had no idea what I was doing the total of 2 times I used them. I started panicking, then someone from the staff had to help me

I find the same thing with me. It's not helpful for overcoming SA.

I actually find them to be sometimes more awkward than going to a real cashier, such as when getting money back from a debit card transaction or using coupons. You have to walk up (possibly putting the attention of other shoppers on you) to the cashier in charge of all the machines and ask them for what you need, and then walk back to finish your transaction, as opposed to doing a simple transaction face-to-face in the first place.

I scanned three bags of candy at the grocery store Halloween afternoon, and forgot my credit cards! I had only $5 on me for a $16 sale! I told the lady that I did not have my money and asked her to cancel my sale and hold onto the bag so I could come back. She was nice!

Now, if I had um manly items, it might have been a different story

I used to get all excited when our local sainsbury's got some self checkouts fitted. And I asked my mum if we could till the whole of our shopping through it, but it's put me off now coz i kept making mistakes and the asistant had to keep helping us.
I think self checkouts are ok and you make less mistakes when you only have a few items not a whole load. So we avoid them now and go to someone serving us.
I don't really have an issue at the moment whilst I live at home and I go shopping with my mum with the ackwardness of the person serving us and that because the people serving us usually talk to my mum and ignore me usually, I just quietly help bag the food.
But when it comes to me getting my own place and having to go food shopping for myself one day, I'll have to go to checkouts and the people will talk to me and i'll have to make an effort. Or I'll probably go on the self checkouts if I have a small amount of shoppping.

i don't have an issue with talking to cashiers so i don't use them. they usually only say hello, how are you, etc. anyway. i'm also worried about not knowing how to use them, haha.

Yes..that's exactly why I don't use it either.

I can sympathize with you on this one as I love the self checkouts, always use them no matter how long the queue Although if something doesn't scan properly and the assistant comes over its very embarrassing.
