The closest thing to a friend I have are my friends on here, so don't feel singled out.

I know how frustrating and lonely it can get not having any friends. Through high school and college I barely had anyone to talk. A few years ago I did make a few, but we don't hang out anymore. I did, however, just manage to find a group of people that I'm starting to feel comfortable being around (which says a lot given my SA) and so I'm hoping to find someone I click with. It's hard on me though because I haven't socialized in so long, but I guess I have to start somewhere.
Hmmm, I see you're from MD. Could I be your friend? Besides, I'd love to get to know someone from SAS.

I don't have the best social skills, but they're certainly a lot better than what they used to be. I guess I've been very fortunate to have had a few very kind people to 'practice' with in the past, even if those people have drifted away since. So I have improved a lot. I can still be very quiet sometimes, but I'm finding I'm okay with it as I'm learning to accept myself however I may be. Focusing on the self-acceptance really helps me to move through any anxiety I may have, and so I feel I'm gradually getting to a better place.
I think a lot about making and keeping friends is learning to be comfortable in your own skin, even though there may be a lot of silence and awkwardness in the relationship at first. I figure it is how it is; we've all got our limitations, and ours just happen to be social. The people who really matter will see beyond that and they'll stay with you however you may be. Those who don't, well yeah, their rejection can be painful, but you probably wouldn't want a relationship with them anyway. So yeah, I’m definitely always on the look-out for new friends, especially from SAS. PM me if you’re interested. I'd love to hear from you. |

I greatly miss having girlfriends and guy friends like I had in the past, with common interests and a penchant for fun and openness. It doesn't appear there are people here who live relatively close by who are up for getting together socially at this time (which is understandable given the site!).
