Ok...so you want a bunch of us SA people in the woods with a tent and what not to rid ourselves of our problems?
I don't know if it would help or make it worse lol. I'd bet someone would loose their mind. It would be so quiet and strange? Would be interesting though and I'd be willing to participate |

I would love to participate! It would be a fascinating sociological and psychological experiment.

Hey, if Jim Jones, Paul Schaefer, and Obama can do it, why can't we?

Brainwashing, also known as thought reform, is a very powerful tool. But it takes a unique set of circumstances to work. For instance many cults need to employ "time management" to keep members brainwashed. Once people leave cults, the empowering feelings usually give way to tremendous guilt and feelings of isolation. In the long run, it's a very dangerous rabbit hole to go down.

Don't mean to take this topic so seriously, but I recently lost a friend to what I believe is a cult. He was a very good (and bright) person, but it was frightening how devoted he was to his "teacher"... she had him wrapped right around her finger-- very disturbing. That said, I do see what you're getting at. Perhaps you'd have better luck with hypnosis!

Brain wash yourself. Heres a book i recommend. "Introducing NLP, Psychological skills for understanding and influencing people" By Joseph O'Connor and John Seymour. At the very least it will make you aware of other ways to see the world. I hope it helps somewhat.

Really? And did you experience some of the things I mentioned? Did someone have "power" over you? How did you break free?

I experienced about 18 years of my life of what you described. I actually blame a large part of my SA because of the guilt and control. I was constantly worried about making wrong choices, not fitting the perfect member part, and not being the best I could possibly be. Its been a 5 year journey "breaking free" and I am judged everyday by my family and closed friends because of my life decisions. I broke free because of rebellion. If I hadnt rebelled a little here and a little there I would have never experienced being on the outside looking in and I would have never seen how much better my life could be. Anyways that really wasnt the purpose of this thread...it was more just of my mind wondering and wishing to think normal.
