"They never really talked much to anyone, they seemed to like being alone, they had good grades in school, a loving family. I think they got so frustrated with being alone one day and they realized what they were missing in life." I think this would annoy many of us here. Just because many of us are quiet, doesen't mean we have anger issues. People who bring guns to school are nut jobs, not all quiet people are nut jobs and should NOT be labeled as one. |

I know what you mean. I just felt a really strong need to vent about this subject since I'd feel weird to talk about it with my parents or friends.

Haha, exactly! I'm studying psychology right now and recently we were learning about atypical behaviour. My lecturer kept talking about sociopaths and people who have serious psychological disorders, and he was mentioning how quiet and withdrawn they usually are in social situations. And I felt so embarrassed like everyone in the room was thinking of me. I was thinking of me, so they must have been. |

People in school have said of me, and to me, that I would bring a gun to school and go on a rampage- "I swear he's like going to get a gun and kill everyone", "Hey, are you going to go on a shooting spree Julian?"- why? Because I'm quiet, not violent or dangerous, just quiet.

Also, I've thought about going completely crazy in school before. Not killing anybody, just breaking windows and throwing chairs and stuff. |

There's some kind of weird effort to demonize individuality. Especially lately with all the paranoia about shootings and terrorism and so forth.

yeahh they do the same thing with video games.. imho i think they just need something to blame to help them feel better >_>
i like my own company (& music haha), i walk around with my headphones on 24/7 it's kinda funny xD soon as i'm done with class the headphones go back on =D it's kinda nice for SA too, cause then people see that your listening to something and they don't really bother you (: not that i don't mind being bothered but it's scary at the same time, such is the way with SA lol xD i'm hardly violent though haha i hate killing bugs and i feel bad for them =(

What?? That is crazy. Imagine something like that being said about a loud person.
God I hate the attitude people have towards those who are quiet. There is a difference between normal, quiet types and those who are quiet because they're extremely disturbed.

I think people just are naturally unsure about quiet people. I think people equate keeping to oneself to having something to hide. You know?

Eeek, I totally agree. My extreme quiet and loner tendencies in high school weren't commented upon, but I'm pretty sure many of my teachers felt uneasy about me. I think one of them followed me to my locker one day to make sure I wasn't hiding weapons in there. o.o;;

I spent my entire time in high school waiting for someone to make some type of "she's the type that'll show up and shoot us all one day" comment. No one ever did. Or at least, not when I was present...

People are paranoid because of the media now a days. In their mind, being quiet can only mean someone that is a time bomb waiting to go off, or serial killer, it would never mean anything positive unless they get to know you or know someone like you, quietness is prejudiced. Being unhappy is also the same, God forbid that you should feel miserable and not feel like talking to people, then your likely to be angry and want to kill everyone.

Some people once said something like this to me in high school. We were in art class, and I was just sitting there working on a project, and across the table this girl remarked about how quiet I was. I ignored her because I had heard that kind of thing all the time, and was simply tired of responding and getting them talking about it more. Then she and her friends started saying how I was probably the type of person who would bring a gun to school and shoot everyone. I tried not to look at them, but I saw that they were looking at me and smiling in this awful way as they were talking.
I wouldn't ever want to do something like shoot someone, but at that moment I was so angry I spent the rest of that class thinking about going behind the girl who started it all and pulling the sh** out of her hair, or just anything to get back at her. I didn't do anything though, just sat there and continued working until they forgot I was sitting there and moved on to talking about something else. |

There is a slight correlation between severe mental illness (untreated schizophrenia, bipolar, and depression for example) and violence, but the emphasis should be on helping the mentally ill rather than sensationalizing the few mentally ill people that do commit crimes.
SA by itself is certainly not an indicator of future violence. |

29? Lives alone? Never brings women home with him? Yeah, nonce, bush-dodger etc. no question about it. GRRR! They moved out not soon after I moved in, yeah nobody likes living next door to a 'deviant', which is what I obviously am if I'm quiet and don't get out much and I'm single/never-married at 29. And yeah, I had half a mind to go round there and cripple the fat ugly c***, I mean wtf, but fact is I didn't.
