Unhappy Here come the holidays

Again. I used to love them. These days it just means more work and less sleep.

When I was a kid, my dad used to always tell me that as you grow up, holidays lose more of their meaning with each passing year. Of course, I didn't believe him, I truly thought that every Christmas would hold that same sense of anticipation and excitement. Looks like everything the old man told me turned out right yet again.

Heh, I actually love the holidays. Even if I don't really spend them with anyone but my immediate family, and I don't ask for gifts anymore.

Maybe it's the weather. I love cold weather (I live in a desert, so it's nice relief). I usually put on some cheesy Christmas music, change my desktop wallpaper to something seasonal, and maybe make some hot chocolate or something. It's one of the few times I'm unconditionally happy each year.

And then my birthday comes 5 days after Christmas, and I realize I've wasted yet another year of my life being a pathetic, friendless virgin.

But yeah, I love the holidays!

I enjoy the holidays overall. The weather is nice (it's usually freakishly hot here the rest of the year) and I get school off. I can also come home and see my pets and family.

If you don't like how holidays are traditionally celebrated, then you can just make them your own and do things that are special to you instead.

I don't like the commercial aspect of the holidays, that is all the presents & shopping etc & luckily we don't do that in my family but there are a few things that I like. Seeing the snow in it's prime of the winter glistening in natural or artificial light, when it snows lightly, the neighborhoods that get creative with Christmas lights, & also good eats, those are things I like. Generally speaking though over the years I've grown not get hyped over them as many do, I prefer they pass by rather quickly actually

i like the holidays too, especially christmas. they used to depress me but now i love it when they arrive. except for thanksgiving because my family never celebrated it. in my 32 years, ive only had four thanksgivings. its just a paid day off for me

Yeah, the holidays always turn out to be a huge disappointment. In my household it's just like any other day, absolutely zero festivities. I am however thinking of getting a seasonal job in some dinky retail store so I can make some money and enjoy the maddening, oft-repeated caroling tunes.

I usually have high hopes going into the holidays of, you know, seeing friends, getting videos/animations done, having 'fun'. Hasn't happened yet.

I miss the way it used to be, when I was a kid, with family, everything seemed so much better. The only christmas type thing I do anymore is watch The Grinch and A Christmas Story, if that counts.

In my family once you reach a certain age, usually around 12, holidays don't mean anything anymore. It's just another day, so I don't really mind them, but it makes me sad sometimes that we do nothing for the holidays (well, we cook, but it's more like a chore than being in the kitchen together and sharing, that was something that only happened with my grandma), no family comes around, it's just normal.
But then again, I'm always anxious around relatives, so maybe this is a good thing.

You don't want that! I'm mainly talking about my job, not my family. I like the commercial aspects of the holidays. As long as I'm on the giving and recieving end, not the selling.

I can't wait for the holidays. For me, it still means going to see the folks, day trips just driving around doing whatever, eating too much, passing out in the jet bath with all the settings - low, medium, and who-needs-a-man, eating too much, sleeping, shopping for needless trinkets with me mum, joking with dad..... watching the wildlife on the island - and then there are the animals....

looking for the deer beds behind the house, sunsets over the Sound.

I can't wait.
