Default Do you get easily irritated by stupidity/ignorance?

You know the stupid questions that you get (totally obvious ones or just plain dumb ones) and the completely ignorant way people act? I have no more patience for any of it. I'm really having to bite my tongue lately.

How do you guys deal with that? I'm trying not to be so bitter but it's really difficult! Maybe that old saying is true... ignorance is bliss. If I was a bit dumber maybe I would be happier

Yes, society is so backwards these days. The uglier you are on the inside and the faker you are on the outside the more you will be rewarded.

For example, how does a mindless troglodyte like this net 70 million dollars? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Storch what a disgusting culture we live in.

I get easily annoyed with stupid customers I have to deal with at work but I of course have to bite my tongue.

#1 I have a $5.00 off coupon. Do you need it? ... Of course we need it, unless you want to pay the $5.00 in cash.
#2 Did you find my house okay? ... Well I'm here, aren't I? If I couldn't find it, I would've called you for directions.
# 3 It's blizzarding outside. How are the roads? ... Well take a look up and down your street. Wtf do you think?

Just a thought- I know SA has caused me to say some silly things or ask stupid questions because I was flustered. Think about it.

The recipe for success in this culture is:

(a) physical attractiveness
(b) knowing how to talk (not necessarily in an intelligent way)

If you don't have at least one of these (like me), you're doomed to be average for life.

RedBlueFish : that's why I can never work in the service industry again! Way too many rude and ignorant people, and they want you to take all of that crap with a smile on your face

I work in manufacturing and it's very boring and repetitive work - everyone's job in the building is for that matter. When I get asked stupid questions I just want to ask 'how long have you worked here? oh, 5 years! THEN YOU KNOW THE DRILL ALREADY!!!' I'm not going to go bug the machine operators just so you can have an exact time on when a new job is coming off the press, when they can't say for sure either. grrrr

polsar - it's a pretty shallow culture we live in, that's why I want to move to a cabin in the woods somewhere. At least you know what to expect from a bear! With people you never know who is the fake, trying to use you, or waiting to stab you in the back.

I only get frustrated when someone refuses to accept an undisputed fact as truth. Like one time, a girl asked me how to spell "congratulations". She kept insisting it was spelled with a "d" instead of a "t". I kept telling her, it has a "t". She would not believe me, and too bad, I couldn't find a dictionary, at the time. Finally, she asked a guy how to spell it, and he said "t". Of course, she believed him right away, because she had a crush on him, lol.

Other than that, stupid questions don't bother me. You can't know everything. There's lots of things I don't know, either. I don't mind explaining things, if the person is open to what I have to say. If they are not open to answers, then they shouldn't be asking questions, IMO. Like that girl who asked me how to spell congratulations.

Yeah...consciously being ignorant is what annoys me. I enjoy explaining new things to people or having new things explained to me so ignorance in itself doesn't bother me.

Although reading the occasional news report (the guy who ran through a glass window and fell 16 stories because he thought the hallway kept going, for instance) does make me wonder how some people manage to tie their shoes without killing themselves.

Yeah yeah, me too. Along those lines, it's an annoyance of mine when people insist that 'opinions' can't be wrong. Sure, certain kinds of opinions are unimpeachable, like those dealing with personal preferences (eg my favourite colour is blue). Other kinds of opinions are certainly open to debate, though. An offshoot of this is people thinking their thoughts are gold and everyone should listen to them, even if it's about a topic they admittedly know nothing about.

Like someone already mentioned, sometimes people ask "stupid" questions because they are nervous.

Also, people sometimes state/ask what should be obvious to try to be friendly/make conversation....you know, try to connect with others. So, maybe it is best not to judge people and brush them off so easily.

I don't think I'm irritated by stupidity. I'm irritated by an unwillingness to learn.

An important distinction. Inherent ignorance or stupidity is not the person's fault. Willful ignorance is another matter entirely.

Sometimes it ok to be willfully ignorant. Take the "news" for example, which is full of sensational stories and likes to gossip about celebrities. It's hard sometimes, but I usually manage to keep my head in the sand.
