Default Do you feel out of the loop during sex -ed ?

I hate having to attend seminars on sex-ed. I know that I am of the age, and all. I know the importance of the education. But I can't help but think that everyone else in the room, has more "carnal knowledge" than I do.

The facilitators, always "brush over"the idea of abstinence, because according to them "the majority of teenagers are having sex already" ...well wouldn't it be nice to be part of that majority .

Its like when the father, scolds his son, in front of the mother, and then winks and say "atta boy." In other words, they say you should exercise restraint, yet they expect you not to.

It feels especially annoying when you live in an area that has a "healthy sexual reputation" By that I mean, sex is like bread here. Everybody and their aunty seems to be in on it.

...ok there I said it. I'm ready to be called a pathetic-nerd-who-should-pay-more-attention-to-his- books now.

Honestly- there aren't as many people having sex as you think there are. But there are a whole lot of people lying about having it to 'fit in' for whatever reason.

And a good percentage of those that ARE having sex, probably aren't enjoying it as much as they say they are either.

Sex ed sucks, I found it so embarrassing, but as long as you still have guys out there that think they can't get std's the first time they have sex, or girls that think they can get pregnant from oral sex alone, well it is necessary I suppose....

I think I'm fairly knowledgable on the subject, but don't have much hands on experience.

I never paid attention to sex-ed so I probably don't know much. Not that I need to because the idea of sex scares the hell out of me so I probably won't ever do it XDD. I don't think so many people are doing it as much as you think so.. Maybe though I'm not sure really. But hopefully you don't feel obligated to just because everyone else is, that doesn't seem really rational to me.

I lived in a very conservative Christian area at the time, from what I remember they just treated it as another biology course (memorize these body parts), and gave us very little interpretation or advice other than some stuff about STDs, abstinence and avoiding abusive relationships. We did cover contraception, condom use, etc.

I never really had a good idea what was going on with my classmates or how widespread it was, I was totally out of the loop when it came to news and gossip. But that was 1999, and anyway I think it's impossible not to feel inadequate in our situation.

I went to a catholic school as well. It was memorize your body parts. Then we focused on being in loving relationships and what that meant according to the bible.

I did not even learn about contraception use at my school. Sex was a taboo subject. At home sex was seen as something wrong that would get you pregnant.

Thank God for Dr.Drew, lol!

What I mean, is, you hear its time for sex-ed, or you hear some "always use a condom" advert, or there is a panel discussion on tv about "teen sex"

...and you say to yourself : " me... sex ? yea.. when will THAT ever happen ?"

I never paid attention to my school's "sex-ed". It consisted of something along the lines of "Don't have sex or you will die!". Haha their message didn't work to well because my school had one of the highest pregnancy rates in our county.

Gotta love the bible belt.

Don't have sex, because you will get pregnant and die! Don't have sex in the missionary position, don't have sex standing up, just don't do it!

^ what movie is that. I also remember when I had sex ed (catholic school) that instead of sexual things you should open the door for her or do her taxes because sex was all about showing appreciation lol.

Also last time I heard that the ratio of virgins to none virgens was 50% so your defiently not alone. Ive also never had sex.

The sex ed class we had in my school was pretty fun. It went over pretty much everything. In the usual sophomore style though everyone had to crack jokes, especially during the infamous STD day where people had to do a report on an STD alone in front of class. Good times...

Ive actually wondered something for a while. Does a relationship during HS always include sex? I can't stand relationships, so at 17 my sexual experiences are all but all the way if you catch my drift. I always feel like im the only one in my school who hasn't gotten laid.

I don't feel out of the loop. I know what to do. But knowing how to do it, and being able to do it are two different things.

It sucks being a virgin.

Wow. I didn't know schools even gave sex ed. Mine sure didn't. Now that I think about it, I'm surprised that I never saw more than one pregnant girl in school in my entire preuniversity life.

Don't worry about being inexperienced though. A lot of people are. There is a great difference between learning about sex and doing it, but when it comes to the time to ~perform~, if you're with someone that's not a total douche, then they'll understand your inexperience with it.
