Default Do people treat you like you're stupid?

It's been happening alot lately at my job. I'm still new to it and there is only one real person training me, but when she's busy I'm basically on my own. Too often I'm being told I'm at fault when did exactly what I was told to do by a higher up. I have no reason to do something I'm not because I'm on probation for another three weeks. The bad thing is that my supervisor believes what the other employees say. I don't like the tension or the atmosphere but I can't leave because I need the money badly. My reaction to incidents like this that remind me just how much I'm not over SA.

It's tough being the new person. You just have to try and learn the job as fast as possible, and then people will stop bothering you. If your supervisor says that you did something wrong, just tell them the person that told you to do it. Ask how you can do it properly next time and hopefully your supervisor will see that you are trying to learn.

Today the Residential Administrator treated me like I was stupid. She ask me why we didn't teach the client how to sign toilet. I told her what my Supervisor said. I told her it is hard to teach that because you would have to know exactly when this client had to go to the bathroom. If you send him to the bathroom and he doesn't go he won't make the connection. The Administrator said well I guess I will have to go talk with my Supervisor. I can tell her my Supervisor will tell her the same thing. This really burns me when people do that. The only reason she is doing that to me is that I am still the outsider after working at this agency for 12 years.

Yes, but I can't blame them. I'm not necessarily stupid (hopefully), but I am too anxious and clumsy to carry out even the most simple tasks.

Yeah but usually when they do that I automatically think "they really think I'm that dumb? They must be extremely stupid!"

I can't even count the number of times I've been treated like that at different jobs.
They do that to everyone.
It doesn't make it suck less, but if you're a supervisor, shooting your mouth off like that is just what you do.

Yup, after 5 years they treat me like im still the new guy, they make me do tasks that are stupid and serve no purpose, its retail and they barely let me serve, and they dumped my hours to 5 hours a fortnight (once every second saturday for 5 hours), so i had to get full time work somewhere else, i still go to this other job too but when i go i feel pathetic

Yeah, me too. I'm pretty sure people think I'm a bit dim when it comes to most things (because of my trouble with organization) but most of it's just nerves acting up. I suspect I'm reasonably intelligent, but never really learned how to harness my brain properly.

My father called me "incompetent" or similar degrading terms on occasion. It does suck, yet I can't imagine always being called it - yeeech >

I know this is an old post, but I used to get this a lot from my boss, and I just wanted to take him by his throat and choke him until he asks me to stop. Believe me, I can do it, too. He wouldn't have a chance, but I wouldn't have a job either. I used to whine about it. Oh, poor, pitifully me. I'm such a victim. Oh, why do you treat me like I'm stupid?

You know what I do now? I treat them like an ***, too. If they give me a down the nose look and ask me in a smart way, I give them a smart answer in return. If they ask me what I said in a way that belittles me, I just ask them if they can hear. Once they see that I'm not letting them have any power over me, they instantly change their tone. Another thing that helps is the intimidation factor. You have to be intimidating in some manner. You can't just talk in a little mousy voice or a soft shy voice. You have to say what you mean and mean what you say. Of course, none of this is done out of anger. It is done out of self-respect. If someone wants to disrespect me, they'll get they same treatment in return. If they want respect from me, they'll have treat me respectfully.

If anyone else has anything to add, please do. I'm here to learn.

So, say you ask a question, and he/she didn't understand you, looks at you like you friggin' idiot, and asks you what you said in a demeaning tone. You just say nothing and walk off?

i meant before asking a question theyll think im smart, but when i ask a question and they find out im average they think im stupid.

but yea iv had that and hate it. no way around it cept asking a different way. only time i'd get choked up is if other people are around hearing the conversation but can stay hard-headed if it's one-on-one for some reason
