Default Self compassion

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-compassion

I've recently (IE a couple months ago) discovered this concept. I just think it's a really great idea. And why not? Treating yourself as you would treat someone else. You don't have to worry about setting standards for yourself, getting down on yourself during failures, whatnot. Don't worry about what you think of yourself, just be nice to yourself.

We always seem to confuse feeling good about ourselves with feeling superior to others. **** that ****.

A lot easier said than done, but I've been trying this. It works a little bit. It's really easy to forget though. Especially in a good moment when I feel narcissistic. Or in a moment when something touches on my insecurities. I always want to feel superior to people I know, especially the ones who are dicks. It's a struggle. But I'm working on it.

Self-compassion is a neat idea. I like it! After focusing on the concepts about failure in psychology ( self-fulfilling prophecies, negativity bias, maladaptive behavior, etc. ), this is a refresher.

I do notice that I extend compassion towards others, but never myself... how strange we can be!

This really does make sense though. I find myself not judging others for tiny things, but I judge myself and criticize myself insanely, treating myself in ways that I would never treat another person...

Self-compassion is pretty much a whole new way to look at things for the most part, so I'll be diving into this. Like the OP said, it can be tough, I can imagine. I've been cruel towards myself for so long that criticizing myself comes so naturally. But I'll surely dive into this concept now, and work at it.

Thanks for sharing

Nice idea, but its sometimes hard to be nice to a person I also loathe at times...
