Default Is swine flu as bad as the news makes it out to be?

I'm just wondering since my dad might have it, and that means I'll probably get it sooner or later...

I don't believe it's any worse than the regular flu which kills many more people. As far as I know, the only difference is that it seems to be attacking younger people who have healthy immune systems with more frequency.

He's going to feel very sick for about 4-7 days, but as long as he's keeping fluids and some food down he will be fine. It's when people become dehydrated that they need to be hospitalized.

Swine flu is unusual because people who are not in the typical risk groups are getting sick, but if you are otherwise healthy you are not going to die. It's mostly the very young, very old, or people with poor immune systems who need to be careful.

If anyone gets swineflu, go to a clinic right away and try to get tamiflu, cuts the duration in half. I agree that it's more hype driven than anything, regular flu is more dangerous, swine flu is just an annoyance IMO.

Until theres a cure for things like HIV, I think they are going way overboard with it.

The media blows everything up... i can't stand it.. this time a few months ago, they were convinced that 1 in 4 would die, and a few yrs ago they said that bird flu would wipe us out...

It's just a flu they don't have a vaccine for...it will make you sick for about a week. It is very contagious, you can get it just from breathing the same air as someone with it. At my doctor's office people who might have this are required to wear masks. It's no fun having the flu regardless of what kind of flu it is.
