Default Depression?

What do you think the percentage of people who are diagnosed with Social Anxiety are also diagnosed with Depression?

Thanks.

Hey Walk I'm not sure of the percentage, but I would say alot of it would depend on the severity of your SA...The more it limits & impacts on your life, the more helpless you feel & the more hopeless the situation seems, and the lower your self-esteem drops, resulting in depression...Perhaps the two go hand in hand? I have been diagnosed with SA & Clinical Depression, but I am pretty sure I would not become so depressed if I did not have SA...

One usually reinforces the other, so I'd guess a good percentage.

I agree with Wish. My clinical depression is fuelled by the frustrations of not being able to live freely of any SA. The inferiority feeling versus others and comparing myself lower to others may also be a branch of SA.

I don't know the facts/statistics, but I would say a lot of ppl with SA also suffer depression. I know in my case, SA causes me to feel isolated and not good enough--naturally, depression sets in with such negative feelings. Actually this week is one of my worst weeks for depression in a long time
