My brother has always had what I'd call a selfish streak. But it wasn't until now that I questioned whether this was a normal personality trait or some kind of mental abnormality. He's extremely selfish and won't do anything for anyone unless he sees a gain in it for himself. He even once said to me "parents are just a means of resources", it wasn't what he said, but how he said it. When it comes to daily stuff around the house he never shows a remote effort in contributing help in any way. He won't help go shopping, he won't help carry groceries, he won't help clean dishes, he won't play games he doesn't like ect. I always figured he was just extremely lazy/selfish. But for anyone who knows, is there any specific defining difference between run of the mill laziness/selfishness and narcissism? |

That's not nearly enough information to go on, but that seems to be a lot more in line with antisocial personality disorder than NPD. Probably just a jackass though.
I mean, even depression can make a person seem really selfish and lazy to others, but especially for a personality disorder like that you need to provide a very detailed history. So it's impossible to even make an educated guess based on your post.
