Default Bipolar II

This was the 2nd doctor in two years who suggested this to me... First my med doctor two years ago.... then my therapist today. Both had the same question: Does bipolar disorder run in your family?" I answer "yes, my uncle (mom's brother) was diagnosed years ago."

Two years ago my med doctor (who I haven't seen in a while due to not being able to afford to) said we should keep the possibility of bipolar in mind as I tried different meds. I was prescribed Lexapro despite this possibility and after a few months felt great so it never came up again; until today.

I had my first session with my therapist in over a year and as I am going on and on about how I've been crying a lot, and hit myself in the face due to anger and frustration over hardly nothing the other night, and how I just want to lock myself in my room and listen to music most of the time..... yet how last night I went out to dinner with my friend and went shopping with energy and excitement.... she said after knowing me for over a couple years and thinking about my track record so to speak, she believes I may bipolar disorder.

That's pretty much how we left it; I have another session with her next week...

Anyone here been diagnosed with having Bipolar? If so, what were your symptoms prior to being diagnosed? What treatments have you received and have they helped?
