I don't remember lunches being like that until at least high school.
I think those other countries are either from private schools or intentionally done to lift up other countries .

And we wonder why the US is a nation of fat. I could go for that Singapore lunch right about now.

All you need to know how to do as a cook in the American schools is how to cut open the boxes, and boil water. Most of everything is prepackaged foods. In the other countries everything is freshly made and contains lots of fresh fruit and veggies.

Haha, I like how the American one is, well... fatty and colorless and has fries passing as vegetables. Even the milk likely has tons of sugar. Looks like barf, which is probably more appetizing.
Summing up the state of a nation with a picture.

I remember at my high school we had a burger stand, a taco stand, a pizza stand, a sub stand (more healthy, but huge portions so lots of calories), and a minuscule side salad bar. Next to those, there was the snack stand that served all sorts of sweet processed treats, and the candy store, all of which were surrounded by vending machines that, aside from the standard soft drinks, had things like rootbeer chocolate milk. I always brought food from home, but I remember being proud of myself in high school for being able to eat a hot and ready to myself, in one sitting, with three large glasses of coca cola. No idea how I stayed as thin as I did, eating what I did back then.

I wouldn't take the pictures too literally. I recall there being a salad bar and fruits available at my high school. Plus, the picture of Kenya has kids eating food which we know isn't realistic.

Japan is so cute!
I'm disappointed in Singapore. They're supposed to be the high class society of Southeast Asian and they're feeding their kids food that looks like something you can order at a Chinese take-out. |

I thought the USA might be getting a bad press, but then looked at the link and all the USA ones are similar!
The UK one is about right to me - all I ate were jacket potatoes at school. |

I chose the pictures from the article for my OP. There are better, and worse for each country at the link. But over all, it's pretty consistent. Now weather the article is neutral is another matter.

My Mom made my lunch 95% of the time.
The US is pretty much what I remember it looking like. There were some 'foods' that I wouldn't touch though. Where are the Australian and New Zealand lunches? Brazil's looks pretty good. |

I remember my middle school colored the scrambled eggs blue because they thought it would make the kids eat them if they were blue eggs.

We had preportioned salads, but I would eat those and cold cuts, too. It wasn't all hamburgers, hot dogs, and pizza.
