I feel your pain. We had a levy passed a few years back to build all new school buildings in the district. The last of the new buildings opened up this year but for the past 2 years, they've been screaming that they don't have money to operate. They've tryed to get a sales tax through 3 times as well as an income tax. Voted down every time by a wide margin. They keep threatening the 2 things that the school system seems to care about, football and band.

I think it would be cool to go to school in a building built in 1910. All the new schools they build around here are disgusting post-modern monstrosities.

I thought Michigan schools were now funded by the lottery, not property taxes?

Sorry, I think they were cut by 2/3.
Last time, I had a home, and they tried to cut some type of tax, my assessment got higher......So I ended up paying more.

My city wastes plenty of money, but we don't build new schools. I think we still rank #1 in terms of highest percentage of residents over 65 of any Milwaukee suburb. The population of my city has been shrinking for about the last 40 years, so no need for more schools. Also not a chance in hell any school building referendum is going to pass here as old folks vote.
There is no place for young families to build new homes in my city. Every last lot is taken. There is plenty of open space, but it's owned by Milwaukee County and much of it is parks.

The bus made a detour the other day, to the tune of 20 minutes to accomodate a parent, I complained "I don't know what your problem is" "Well, next time, I'll have a lawyer explain it to you, then you can tell me what my problem is" so, I may end up costing the school some money, the principal said 'This happens all over" like it was no big deal. Check your assessment. I know sometimes if you argue, they take it down a notch, not a lot but some....
