Default Romney to Quit Presidential Race

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008 ... tial-race/

So I guess McCain's the man! Come this time next year, it's going to be either McCain, Clinton, or Obama as president. Even if it's McCain, that won't be that bad. He's a decent guy. He's just doing what it takes to get the right-wing nuts jobs to vote for him.

That is a surprise. I figured he would hang in until the convention.

I was kind of hoping Romney would get the nomination. I think it would have been good to pit a Mormon against whichever minority candidate the Democrats get. Realizing that they had to vote for the choice of one "minority" over the other might have made the bigots either a) not show up or b) vote the issues.

Have a nice day,
Kelly

Yeah it would have been interesting. Still, I just can't see the Republican base (pretty much made up of fundamentalist Christians now) voting for a Mormon. There's no way he could have won the Republican candidacy.

Romney comes off as extremely arrogant. I can't help but feel he brought on his own demise with his overly negative campaigning lately. I'm not really a McCain fan either, but I won't have much choice of who to vote for this fall.

So you will vote for McCain? Why would you vote to keep us in Iraq?

McCain is certainly the anti-change candidate.

Another reason why I wish the Ohio primary wasn't so late in the process.

Ya it looks like it's down to the lesser of 3 evils as far as voting goes in this presidential race. I'm not looking forward to any one of these three as our next president.

The real problem is that the primaries are all held in left-leaning states really early. Aside from Iowa, you get shifty republican candidates due to the early voting in these states that all-but sets the candidate. If they really want to know what the republicans want, they would hold primaries in the midwest and south first. The dems would hold them in the same places, save Iowa. New England, high-population cities, and the rust belt are where the dems live.

None of the presidential candidates are leftists. Aside from barely-left centrists Kucinich and Gravel, they are all right/authoritarians.

Politicalcompass is so far left and authoritarian that they can't even see center, they're like most filthy leftists authoritarians.

I mean, Ron Paul? Authoritarian? Right? Where the hell do they come up with their definitions for right/left and authoritarian/liberal? He'd be at least mid-liberal and fairly center.

Gravel? Libertarian? He'd be above-center on the authoritarian scale and way to the right. He'd be up there with Tancredo and Newt.

I was against the war from the start, but Iraq isn't my only decisive factor for choosing a candidate. I don't care for either party so its a matter of picking whose **** stinks the least. I tend to be conservative on most issues so I almost always vote Republican even though I'm completely disgusted with them.

Actually, I disagree with McCain on a lot of the issues like waterboarding and amnesty....But I prefer him as a person more than most of the other viable candidates...He seems to acknowledged now that border security comes first then we talk about guest workers...And in life and death situations, I hope he realizes sometimes there is a need for waterboarding...If you capture some Al Qaeda who are about to unleash an attack on the U.S., I say waterboard them til the cows come home...As for Romney, the comment about him being the Stepford Wife candidate comes to mind...And how could anybody believe anything he says when he changes his core beliefs all of the time....Romney comes off as a cold blooded, aloof CEO, who was more likely to fire you than care about your concerns and quality of life...McCain, at least, will be more fiscally conservative/responsible than Bush has...And that talk about social conservatives sitting out 2008, yeah right...With two more Supreme Court vacancies probably up for grabs, and Hillary as the likely Democratic contender...If tie comes down to seeing President Hillary in the White House, the Republicans will have a fast raproachment with McCain....

From the very page you were looking at:
Quote:
In response to many requests, not only from Americans, The Political Compass™ has charted the most prominent names in the 2008 US Primaries. They have been evaluated through scrutiny of public statements, manifestos, interviews and, crucially, voting records. Our apologies for those not included.

It is important to recognise that The Political Compass™ is a continuum rather than consisting of hard and fast quadrants. For example, Ron Paul on the social scale is actually closer to Dennis Kucinich than to many figures within his own party. But on the economic scale, they are, of course, far apart.

When examining the chart it is important to note that although most of the candidates seem quite different, in substance they occupy a relatively restricted area within the universal political spectrum. Democracies with a system of proportional representation give expression to a wider range of political views. While Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel are depicted on the extreme left in an American context, they would simply be mainstream social democrats within the wider political landscape of Europe. Similarly, Hillary Clinton is popularly perceived as a leftist in the United States while in any other western democracy her record is that of a moderate conservative.
You should also note that they're using an international scale. In terms of international politics, the United States is fairly conservative, which automatically shifts the candidates to the right.

Have a nice day,
Kelly
