Default FDA to ban flavored cigarettes

http://www.news-medical.net/news/200...igarettes.aspx

I am actually against this. I was thinking about buying cloves or a pack of Sweet Dreams Vanilla. *******s.

I don't smoke, but I also disagree with the ban. Are they going to ban strawberry daiquiris and Long Island iced tea, too? How about Mike's Hard Lemonade or Bud Light Lime? After all, kids might start drinking if drinks have a fruit flavor.

What about flavored or glow-in-the-dark condoms? Those might encourage kids to have sex. Better ban them!

I would venture to say that most kids who start smoking will try whatever they can get their hands on, regardless of what flavor it is.

Same here. It's simply giving too much authority to government. I seem to recall that many are also against menthol cigarettes that are apparently less offensive to smokers than the non-menthol kind (not like I'd know as I've never smoked).

Anybody who's watched "Dateline Predator" knows that no pedophile makes a visit without a six pack of Mike's Hard Lemonade. I only once had a bottle of that alco-pop and it's so sweet that you can't tell it contains 5% alc., which I'm sure is why the kids love it. I doubt most kids are big fans of "real" liquor that tastes like liquor.

Flavored condoms would be used for what a majority of kids (and Bill Clinton) don't consider to be sex.

I'm not sure how much longer you will be able to buy cloves and such. I wonder if they are already gone. I think I might go buy a pack of cloves tomorrow.

I wonder if the ban consider menthol cigarettes like Newports and such since it's technically "flavored."

As much as I do not like smoking, this ban is really stupid.

It's a stupid ban. But if you are really hard up for flavoring you can always buy your own. I know Tasty Puff is pretty good.

I'm tempted to try flavored ones now.

I just got three cartons of Djarum Blacks in the mail. Actually, buying straight from the makers in Indonesia is way cheaper. I paid $23 for a carton of ten packs of cloves, works out to $2.30 a pack. I would pay six or seven dollars for a pack on import. Even with the $10 shipping, it's a steal.

But I do think that this ban is utter bull****, mainly because they banned all flavored cigarettes except for menthols. Menthol is a ****ing flavor, just because menthols are produced in the US instead of Indonesia doesn't negate that fact. And menthols have been proven to be horrible for you, cloves have been "inconclusive."

Do Menthol cigarettes really clear your nose out like a Vicks product?

Probably, but not as strongly. They also cut your throat up, that's the main thing I noticed about them before feeling like utter death.

The ban on candy and fruit-flavored cigarettes is a critical step to end one of the most insidious tactics the tobacco industry has used to target and addict children. The tobacco companies have a long history of using flavors to attract kids, and survey data show that youth smokers are much more likely to use these flavored products.
This ban makes no sense. Without these cigarettes to help them lose weight, American kids will just get fatter and fatter.

Isn't ordering cigarettes risky? Don't they catch up with you because you aren't paying taxes?

My guess would be they only go after the distributors.

they shouldnt go after the distributors since they are in a different country and dont have to abide by our tax laws. i always thought that you didnt have to pay taxes if you buy things from other countries online.

Used to be you didn't even have to pay taxes if you bought things from other states online.

Anyway, there is not enough man power to hunt down everyone who is avoiding taxes by buying cigarettes from other countries. And to do it would require an invasion of your privacy without a reasonable cause anyway, or invading the country that's selling them lol, unless the company selling them is a sting operation, in which case I would give up completely on my country and move to Mexico out of embarrassment.

The rule was the online (and mail order) merchants didn't have to collect sales tax when shipping to any address not in their state. Seems reasonable given the complexity of some mom & pop shop setting up online and having to comply with the state sales tax rules in 50 different states, not to mentions counties with sales taxes as well. The burden would effectively kill mom & pop operations.

I'm not sure about other states, but I assume they're similar to Wisconsin where there is a line on a WI income tax return that asks you to fill in the amount of sales tax for all your untaxed out-of-state purchases. I'll make a wild guess that hardly anybody puts down anything other than zero and it's not like they have the manpower to investigate if you bought a used book online for $10 and owe 56 cents of tax.

I've smoked plenty of fruit flavoured tobacco while in university, and it still tasted like tobacco. It's kind of like Cherry Coke: It doesn't actually taste like cherries.

regarding the boys in my highschool who smoked, I just remember they went for the ones with the strongest nicotine content, to show they are "badass". I don't think they would have ever gone for flavoured tobacco.

this is off topic, but how does an out-of-state purchase have anything to do with a person's income?
