Klonopin lasts too long for PRN use. Besides, it takes too long to kick in for PRN use as well. Most of the bad stuff you hear is from people taking the short acting Xanax instead of the longer acting XR version. They are both equally effective and equally bad so I see no reason for distinguishing between the two other than their half life.

That's why I switched from k-pins to Xanax because the Klonopin took to long to kick in....

Klonopin lasts nearly a full day so it's useless as prn. It's used when constant medication is needed and for those that have been on klonopin there are far more negative reports than there are for xanax. The number is just smaller because constant benzo use is quickly pointless for most so fewer get put on klonopin. Xanax on the other hand lasts a few hours but it hits hard and it wears off hard causing addiction and side effects which leads to the frequent complaints.

I've used Xanax just a few times and it didn't hit me any harder than the klonopin the olny difference is how fast it hits

Faster adds to harder.

That's unusual. Most people I have read report a sort of pleasant rush from the quickness of action of Xanax, and sometimes even a crash. That, combined with the relative addictiveness of Xanax, I'd recommend Klonopin or Valium. They are equally effective for panic, and I feel the effects within an hour, I just have to be strategic, and the extra hours of anxiety relief is an extra bonus.

If your panic is extreme and hard to predict, then Xanax would be the answer from FDA-approved anti-anxiety meds I guess. I'd still exhaust other options before jumping into Xanax/Benzos. Nardil, Lamictal, or Gabapentin are three I'd recommend.

Stephen Stahl calls Klonopin "long acting Xanax" so there you have it. They both have the same pro's and con's when corrected for half life. Don't read too much into people's reviews since a lot of people seem to lack objective judgement and give overly biased and factually plain incorrect reports.

I would think the Xanax runs the higher risk of chemical dependence.

I would ask this question to a doctor.
This doctor has a online forum he treats patients with Xanax in Los Angeles plus he takes his patients off the drug since benzos are not recommended for long term use.
Google him.

Dr. Stuart Shipko.
He is also an author.

K-pin works way better for me than Xanax. But the long half-life of K-pin means you need to wait longer between uses or else you risk it always being in your system.

It also means it lasts two hours longer . I'm a K-pin fan myself. On Xanax I practically forget my own name.
Don Gio likes this.
