Hello, I have been on Paxil and only Paxil for about 6 years and have been taking 10mg of it for almost 2 years and was just prescribed Zoloft 25mg from my physician since I told her the Paxil has not been that effective. I was up to 20 and 30mg's of Paxil before but felt like a zombie so that's why i cut it down to 10mg. So she recommended 25mg of Zoloft. I was told to stop taking Paxil for 3 days before I go on Zoloft and when I went down to 10mg of Paxil, I don't want to b/c it was hell as I experienced the withdrawal symptons. Nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, electric shocks, shaking...pretty much most of the symptoms you get when you withdrawal.
So I'm really nervous and was just wondering if anyone ever switched from Paxil to Zoloft and how their results were...?
I'm not aware of any reason why you couldn't simply switch from Paxil to Zoloft in one day. I've never personally done that with an SSRI (have done it lots of times with benzos). I've never had a problem stopping an SSRI. Zoloft was the final SSRI I ever tried and I even intentionally tried to see if I could manage to get it to produce withdrawal symptoms (I don't recommend anyone else try this). I went from 300 mg of Zoloft to 100 mg within a week and then stopped cold turkey -- not a single problem. I only did that to prove to myself the drug really does nothing.
Just goes to show that it's true what they say- don't believe everything you read in the papers or the web ! The quote above is so lacking & casual in every department. I am switching from Paxil to Zoloft with a week's break in between. My doctor has advised this because of a rare interaction of SSRI drugs that produces 'serotonin syndrome overload' that could be fatal. I would rather trust a qualified practitioner than a misinformed web scribbler. As they say- loose lips sink ships !
I have tried paxil once for some months but made me feel more happy than when I quit completely I got more anxious, nervous, and brain zaps. the zoloft that I take is 200mg and when i stopped taking my medication at 50 mg i started throwing up, nausea, just got worse.
