Default SSRI weight gain and increased appetite!

omfg ever since i've been on zoloft (SSRI) i cant' stop eating, i'm gaining weight like crazy. I've been on it for like 1 1/2 months I don't know what to do, talk to my doctor about it? Probably not, because she might put me on on a differnt medication and i don't wanna keep going from different medicine to different medicine; i don't want all these chemicals in my body. So should i just stop taking them completely and don't go back to the doctor until the end of next year or something?

There honestly arent' helping, like that haven't made me better nor worse. I'm just gaining weight!

What should i do?
Are you having negative effects on zoloft?

ask your doc about possibly adding Wellbutrin (in combination with Zoloft), or adding a low dose of a stimulant such as Adderrall. Wellbutrin greatly decreased my appetite on SSRIs. Weight loss is a common side effect of Wellbutrin.... . however if you have large problems with anxiety, Wellbutrin might not be a good option for you.

I would not stop taking Zoloft without consulting your doc first.....but if you choose to stop it, do so gradually, tapering very slowly. If you stop abruptly, you could get serious withdrawal symptoms.

Maybe try chewing gum and drinking bottled water instead of snacking. Sometimes just the act of chewing is enough, and the water will fill your stomach up.

I gained about 110 ibs on zoloft i was always thinking of food when i felt better. I would tell your doctor about it if youre concerned. Lexapro has helped my derpession without eating so much..

110lbs??!?!!? Dios mio! Wow-- I took effexor for a handful of years in early adulthood and went from maybe 145lbs to 160lbs (during much of this time I was going out a lot/drinking heavily/not too much exercise/etc, so I'd say my lifestyle contributed a fair bit). I'm about 5'9'', so 145-160lbs is within a 'normal' weight range.

I started remeron about a year ago and was probably 150lbs at that time, and have gained about 10lbs of weight/mass though I have made a large effort to go to the gym (and add supplements/protein) over this past year. I guess for some (like myself) the appetite stimulation is welcomed and/or needed, and for others it's a terrible, terrible side-effect for someone who is already self-conscious.

Were you concurrently taking other medications? ie; antipsychotics etc

For me, the appetite stimulation that remeron causes isn't really my primary concern, heck before it my appetite was probly too low. For me it just completely drains all my energy and motivation to do anything. Before I started it I went to the gym every day and was in the best shape of my life, I had motivation even though I was depressed and anxious. Now all of that energy/motivation seems to be gone. I've got to admire the fact that you still manage to make it to the gym on remeron though, wish I could.
