Default saw my psychiatrist today + questions

im on 40mg paxil. I decided to give that more time. I've been on paxil for like 3 months though. He says I shouldn't go higher than 40mg since I'm not getting really any benefit from 40mg. He also denied my request for a benzo immediately. He agreed to combo my paxil with buspar though so I'm gonna try that and see how it works and maybe it might get rid of the sexual side effects? I'm also thinking of switching from paxil to prozac since the paxil doesn't seem to be doing much.

My 10 year old cousin is prescribed xanax. I take some from him sometimes. I've taken 1mg before and it didn't do anything, which my aunt says will fck up most people. hmm.

comments? I might want to find a new psychiatrist, what do you guys think?

Your pdoc is just another benzophobe, nothing new here. Buspar most likely will do nothing but thin your wallet.

Sure, wouldn't hurt. Only thing that happens when you raise your dose(within reasonable limits (80mgs max for Paxil)) is that you will feel more side effects or more intense side effects.

I'm personally at 60mgs of Paxil, though I was on 80mgs at one time.

Isn't Paxil the most dangerous SSRI? Does it have a benefit over other SSRI's? Do I have to be more careful about taking SSRI's, after feeling suicidal on Zoloft? I'm just trying to figure this out.

"The "increased suicidal ideation" side effect can be explained like this. The patient is already suicidal from depression. The patient may even have a suicide plan planned out but lack the motivation and energy to carry it out. Then comes along Prozac. It starts giving the depressed person energy BEFORE it starts working on your patient's suicidal thoughts and moods. So now this depressed suicidal patient on Prozac has the energy to carry out his or her plans of suicide. This only happens in few patients but you as your child's parent and his/her doctor MUST keep a close tab on your child before the anti-depressant mood action kicks in. This time frame is about 4-8 weeks. After that if the medicine is working, the patient will lose his/her suicidal thoughts and the depression will begin to lift making the patient return to normal." - myself

hey, but did you feel any benefit from said medicine before taking the dose to 60mg? or was it after you started 60mg that you felt any relief from anxiety?

I would look at other non script approaches to alleviating your depression/anxiety, along with trying other meds. I tried 5? ssri's before I used paxil which was the first step in the right direction, so I could function.
