To give you some prespective, Zoloft comes in tablets of 25, 50, and 100 mg. 25 mg is really just a starter dose. 50 or 100 mg are more typical doses once you get used to the drug.
The maximum recommended dose is 200 mg. I've tried it up to 300 mg (without any benefit) and my psychiatrist has other patients who take 300 mg.

As others have said, 50 mg. is pretty small. 200 mg. is the max dosage - I was on 125 mg. for about 2.5 years.
