Default Propranolol and timing?

Hello, I recently got a prescription for 20mg (the blue tablets) Propranolol, a generic version. I took my first tablet today just as a regular day in college to see the effects, and I had horrible stomach pain, and bit of dizziness--I thought I was about to faint.

I took it about 10 minutes after I ate breakfast (cereal and a banana). Should I take it on an empty stomach instead? It didn't say one way or the other on the little drug info sheet I was given. I got these mostly for speeches, but I just thought I'd try it out today, and good thing I did.

cut tabllet in quarters and take i only for a while to get used to it

it made me dizzy and I eventually had to get another beta blocker pindilol, which suits me better

can be taken with or without food

I would be very careful about taking propranolol if it gives you those types of stomach problems. In fact I would suggest not taking it.
