Exclamation Promising Oxytocin Spray "Cuddle Hormone"

Oxytocin is a natural anti-anxiety agent: the "cuddle hormone". Several drug companies, notably Wyeth, are investigating its patentable synthetic analogues. Enhanced oxytocin release contributes to the acute pro-social action of MDMA (Ecstasy). Oxytocin builds trust by reducing activity in the fear-processing circuitry of the amygdala. Taken off-label, oxytocin can be inhaled as an intranasal spray to combat social phobia. It reduces shyness and normal social anxiety. More controversially, oxytocin can be applied as an odourless body-spray to manipulate the responses of other people: "trust in a bottle". Nature's social peptide is also critical to pair-bonding. In future, mastery of the oxytocin system may allow us to control our degree of fidelity and attachment to each other far more effectively than marriage vows. The sociological implications of the widespread use and abuse of "social Viagra" would be far-reaching. It should be stressed that research into the safe and sustainable enrichment of human oxytocin function has barely begun.

I have just ordered 5 of these sprays and I will return with a review when I have tried them.. Because I think this sounds VERY promising!

Sounds like a hoax. But then again, alcohol removes my SA, so I guess I should be hopeful.

I've read on several websites that Oxytocin should be very good at relieving social anxiety. It's worth I try I guess...

I think the proper way to boost oxytocin is through 5-HT1A agonism. This boosts dopamine as well, and should be much more powerful and longer-lasting (ie. MDMA and AMT's empathogenesis).

I eagerly await your results, nonetheless.

Yeah I agree, unfortunately the supposedly indirect 5HT1A agonist mirtazapine seems to do very little for this, and I've heard reports of buspar being equally as useless.

Apart from MAOI's, SRI's seem to be the main (albiet indiscriminately) way to boost serotonin to a meaningful extent. So What about something like prozac? It would probly boost just a bit more serotonin to the 5HT1A receptor, thanks to it's 5HT2C antagonism, and also due to it's 5HT2C antagonism, it should boost dopamine aswell.

I guess california rocket fuel might also be an option for achieving meaningful 5HT1A agonism.

Forget pharmaceuticals, those are all too weak on 5-HT1A. Buspirone is only a partial agonist, and binds preferentially to autoreceptors as most if not all agonists do. Ultra-high doses might be useful at providing some empathogenesis, but then again the D2 antagonism would likely be clinically significant at those doses. AMT is a full agonist at 5-HT1A and looks like the most practical empathogen due to its long duration of action - too bad it's Schedule I because of having psychedelic and euphoric properties. I guess it's too efficacious an antidepressant and empathogen for the government to allow millions of people miraculous relief of their psychological disorders.

Just google how bad the side effects can be. Is it really worth it for about 10 minutes of anxiety relief, assuming the sprays even cross the BBB and don't just give you a load of peripheral side effects?

IllusionalFate is right, 5-HT1A agonists are a much better idea than snorting oxytocin.
