Its what appeared when Effexor XR's patent is nearing its end. Its basically like Celexa(Effexor XR) is to Lexapro(Pristiq). A pharmaceuticals way of being lazy instead of creating a new drug.

Personally I like a drug that rhymes with Pristiq, "Actiq"

Just search for Effexor. It's amazing how easily doctors are manipulated into prescribing the same drug that is on patent instead of the generic...

so you're saying that if celexa didn't work for somebody, than lexapro wouldn't work for them either?

No, Lexapro may work better but Lex is just Celexa with the inactive isomer removed. Generally they should both work about the same, but everybody is different. It's just that Lexapro is on patent so it costs a lot more so docs tend to prescribe it more (thinking newer = better.) At least until Lexapro goes generic next year when I'm sure we'll start hearing about some "new and improved" SSRI that happens to be patented.

Here's a message board specifically covering Celexa and Lexapro experiences:

It's been about 1 1/2 weeks. I felt nauseated in the morning but it subsided after a few days. No effect on SA, but it's helping with hypersomnia. My sleep cycle used to be really messed up.(often sleeping in the morning and more than 12 hours) When I took pristiq before bed, I never slept more than 10 hours, which is good news for me.

lol pritiq is completely different than effexor. The fda doesnt release the same thing over again. I have also taken both lexapro and celexa and they are different too. Effexor made my blood pressure and heart rate sky rocket!!! Pristiq made it a bit slow.
