Default Prescribed risperidone....What is this supposed to do???

today i got prescribed 0.5mg risperidone to take with my 20mg of prozac i've been taking for 5 months.

Can anyone fill me in on this drug. Will it work for SA? Experiences?

you are going to be tired. you might also feel a desire to eat alot of food. it will help decrease anxiety, but you might not have any motivation to talk to people. Risperdal is an antipsychotic...prepare to feel tired, flat, and apathetic. but it will reduce anxiety.

I take 2mg a day and i don't notice much of a benefit but my psychiatrist doesn't want to take me off it since im doing good now, she doesn't want to change my meds. Its supposed to help with anxiety I dont notice much of a difference I've tried a number of other antipsychotics as well. I havent had any weight gain or drowsiness issues at this dose, wellbutrin might be counteracting these side effects though. At 6mg i was out of it and had extrapyramidal side effects. But no side effects at this dose, hopefully it will work for you.

Risperidone is a much misunderstood drug because it is an antipsychotic, and the history of these drugs is rather bad but also well documented.

They were once called tranquilizers because thats what they used them for. But then later they learned its good for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder as a mood stabilizer.

Its good for SA as in the distorted thought processes that accompany SA are eradicated and replaced with a calmer one.

Side effects are low after a few days at a sustained low dose of around 1-3 or 4mgs. Remember, most drug's side effects are actually sypmtoms of the underlying disorders!
