I used to do good on a combination of Citalopram and Buspirone, but I guess external factors also played a large role and partly clouded my judgement. I was an avid fan of Buspirone (Buspar), but I now have to take back my initial enthusiasm and agree with the rest of you that it is indeed a sugarpill I've also discovered that social anxiety isn't my worst enemy (although it is a fierce one), but depression is what is sucking my enjoyment out of anything, including social contact. Citalopram doesn't seem to help much, although I do feel a lack of caring and general apathy towards all "important" things in life. Obviously this wasn't working, but like so many, my psychiatrist is largely incompetent and does not know how to handle someone who likes to educate himself on the various topics that wreak havoc on his life. I'll be finding myself a new one soon. To cope with the depression I went back to a semi-solution I found before getting meds; using nicotine. And wow, I couldn't even remember it was this powerful. Mind you, I have never smoked in my life and have no intention of ever doing so. But nowadays they have invented these tablets containing nicotine, which you can suck on, to help quit the smoking. Don't think they ever thought people like I would use it to well, kind of do the opposite. ![]() The effects of nicotine are very pleasant, and when you read into the mechanisms of actions, it is kind of understandable. It has all-round and dynamic anti-depressant and stimulating effects. I've done Dexedrine for a short while, and it has nothing on nicotine. Dexedrine never gave a pleasant feeling and was largely ineffective against the social anxiety. Nicotine does it all, I can easily handle the anxiety of looking strangers in the eyes, it keeps my depression and general anxiety at bay, keeps me focussed, relaxed and alert. If you guys are interested in the potential that lies in this well-known substance, and future possibilities for the treatment of depression, take a look at these resources I found on the web: http://biopsychiatry.com/nicotine.htm http://www.yaledailynews.com/article...1696?badlink=1 http://psychcentral.com/news/2006/09...antidepressant Cheers! |
