And what exactly is the difference between different doses i mean what is the difference for example between paxil 10 mg and paxil 40 mg, what happens, does dose of 40 mg block more seretonin than 10 mg of paxil, i mean what is the pharmalogical difference between 10 mg of paxil and 40 mg of paxil what happens in the brain differently biologicaly between those two doses. This is my new regimen from today my doc made some adjustments: propanalol 40 mg in the morning wellbutrin xl 150 mg in the morning cipralex 10 mg in the morning used to take 20 mg serequel xr now i take 400 mg at night but before i used 600 mg and lithium 300 mg morning and 300 mg bedtime my new drug is wellbutrin i hope i get good results from it. |

Quote:
paxil= SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor). normally serotonin is released from serotonin neurons into the synaptic cleft, where it attaches to serotonin receptors. then, it gets sucked back into the neuron by a reuptake transporter. SSRIs block this transporter thing....so serotonin just stays floating around in the synaptic cleft (it doesnt get sucked back into the neuron). the more serotonin in the synpatic cleft= the more it binds to receptors= the more effects you get.. 10mg of Paxil would only block some of the Reuptake transporters, but 40mg would block almost all of them, so youd have alot more Serotonin activity than normal.

The only ones i have had experience with is Wellbutrin and paxil. As far as paxil the main differences between a lower 10mg dose vs. a higher 30/40 is usually less emotion in general which dampens anxiety a lot, but it also causes more weight gain and basically killed my libido. As far as the chemistry in the brain stuff i'm not sure. i was prescribed wellbutrin 150 originally to help counteract some of the weightgain and libido effects of paxil and also to add "motivation", i ended up doubling it to 300mg and decided i liked it more at 300 helped combat the 30mg of paxil i take. 150 wellbutrin i believe is the lowest dose you can take, where 300 is about average and upwards of 500+ i have heard increases the risk of having a seizure a lot.
