Default Meds making you tired?

What do you guys do to counter the tiredness that you get from a lot of these drugs? I'm taking Paxil and Cloanzepam, and it's a chore to do ANYTHING. I drink 2 redbulls a day and that just keeps me awake so I can get throught the work day. I've tried taking the meds at different times during the day, but still, I'm tired. Does it ever go away or should I just get used to it? I used to take Wellbutrin which made me feel like I was on speed, but it gave me really bad headaches and I had to stop taking it.

I would suggest provigil.

I used to only have a cup of coffee in the morning, I now have one in the late afternoon to give me a bit of a boost for the evening. It's not earth shattering (and probably doesn't help you if you already drink Redbulls) but it does help me a bit.

I'm on Lexapro.

I would bring enough information about this med when you see your doc, as its listed as a "stimulant" they may assume its another amphetamine but in fact its a neuroprotective wakefullness promotor without any risk of abuse.

you need to cut back on the clonazepam and take the paxil just before bed

an antidepressant that stimulates one person may sedate another

I found with paxil is that although it sedated me, taking it at bed caused extremely bad restless leg syndrome. So be warned.

I think pretty much all anti-depressants that make a person feel sedated will inevitably cause tiredness for them throughout the day. It's also why people fall into the trap of consuming foods they don't usually eat, to find that extra bit of energy to get through the day. Vicious circle.

Maybe try lowering the dose of clonazepam? I don't know about the paxil, but I take clonazepam alone, and it's quite sedating.

My Paxil has made me take a nap every evening this week. I increased the dosage.

Apparently adding trazodone to an SSRI/SNRI at night can help the fatigue, because it makes you sleepy but it has an 8 hour half life so it's out of your system by the time you wake up, and because during that time it antagonises 5HT2a/5HT2c receptors allowing you to get more slow wave sleep that SSRI/SNRI's can usually reduce through that mechanism, which would usually lead to poor sleep architecture, which is puported to be one of the reasons why SRI's give you so much fatigue. Just an idea.

some research suggests that Trazodone metabolizes into mCPP...5ht2c agonist...could make RLS worse during the day, and cause more fatigue and anxiety the following day after taking trazodone. not sure about this but its possible

Yeah good point actually, plus isn't mCPP also a 5ht2b agonist, which can be detrimental to the heart?

it looks like it is a 5ht2b agonist....

one thing i took for tiredness and apathy on Paxil is DLPA, or DL phenylalanine. It worked really well...it gave me more energy, took away alot of my chronic pain...and i had a ton more energy and motivation. Its a precursor to dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain...and it raises levels of enkephalins which are antidepressant, similiar to endorphins. I took a whole bunch probably like 2-3 grams a day which is alot but Paxil is really sedating for me and it helped

I searched it, and it sounds like something I should talk to my doctor about. I'm on three different medications; side effect for all of those is fatigue. Before I even started taking them I had chronic fatigue and you can imagine how bad it is now. I haven't really been doing anything to combat it. I sometimes take afternoon naps because I feel physically zapped, or long bike rides. They seem to help. In fact, I think I'm going to go on one soon.

I tried provigil for the first time yesterday and its a very clean stimulant that doesnt cause any euphoria but just gives you all the energie you need, i definatly recommend it.

Has anyone been on an anti-depressant that hasn't made them tired? I don't really think I've been on one that hasn't, except for maybe Roboxetine/Edronax which is a pure NRI.

wellbutrin (bupropion) didn't make me tired. but i don't know if its approved in the UK, unfortunately. maybe it is... it should be availiable, its really effective for some people. it doesn't raise serotonin really at all, ...doesn't cause apathy or tiredness. its way too stimulating for some people with anxiety like me, because it can cause anxiety, insomnia and jitteryness due to its adrenergic and weaker dopaminergic action. its more like taking an amphetamine/ritalin, not at all like all the other traditional serotonergic antidepressants. some people snort it to get a rush....and some of those people get seizures. but when u just take it normally not too many people get seizures...

I tried bupropion once, NEVER, EVER again. Even at the standard starting dose, I felt like I might've had a seizure or something, really scary.
