I'm currently taking Prozac 20mg a day and it's working really well. I've just moved back home for a few days and forgot to bring them with me but ive found some citalopram 20mg in my draw from a while back. Could I take these instead for a few days? |

i would strongly suggest against doing that. Not only might they be expired but the two medications can conflict with each other. Will you die? Lol, probably not but I still wouldn't do it unless you will go completely insane without something.

I wouldn't. Try to get hold of some prozac, maybe explain the situation to a pharmacist and ask them what to do. I don't recommend going without, either.

Don't take the celexa; although it won't kill you, there are enough interactions that you generally dont' wanna do that. Prozac has a long half-life so if you're only home for a few days, the withdrawals won't be ghastly. A pharmacist might be nice and lend you some on a doctor's note, but a psychiatrist will definitely have some samples.

I think getting some samples from your doc might help. I personally wouldnt take the citalopram because it can cause some confusion.

I think generec citalopram is the worst junk I've ever been on. But that's just me. It turned my brain to mush and made me sleep for 12 hours a day.

I'm about to start on celexa, and you're scaring me a little. How much did you take, for how long, and what do you mean it "turned your brain to mush"? were you on anything else at the time? If you could let me know that would be really nice, because I really want to figure my own sh*t out, and hearing from someone with experience would be helpful. Also, if anyone has had a different experience with this drug, if you could tell me about that, that would be nice too. |

I've been taking citalopram for 2 weeks now for depression (I have SA and GAD as well). I am taking 10mg doses daily (half of the 20mg tabs). It initially increased my anxiety the first few days I started taking it, but then I remembered to do some exercise everyday and that brought the anxiety spikes under control (I still have SA though). I also started off taking the tabs at midnight, but then it would keep me up till 6am. Now I take it around 3pm and with some exercise (just a good walk even) I can get to sleep at night relatively easily. But then I am feeling a lot more tired than usual though.
Its seems wayyy to early for the meds to be kicking in but I don't feel depressed much now. I've also been feeling slightly more comfortable during social interactions. They say it takes several weeks at least for it to kick in. These positive changes could just be coincidental. I'd say give it a go as each med is going to affect each person differently. Unless the side effects are unbearable I'd stick with it for at least 2 months before giving up.

Hey, cellophanegirl
Like mind games said, different people react differently, so it's worth a try.

I would try to goto the local pharmacy and see if you can get some supply of your prescription. If not, you could take 10mg celexa (I think 20mg would be too much at this point), if your really feeling withdrawals. But since prozac has a long half life, you may not notice anything after being off it for a few days.
