I see lots of posts about Klonopin. How is it the same/different from Ativan? OR, is it the same thing? Is it stronger? Or, longer lasting? Or, more for 'everyday use'? Please let me know! |

Ativan is a short acting benzo. Klonopin is a long acting benzo. Either one can be used for everyday and long term use, depending on your level of anxiety and what kind of doctor is prescribing them. Personally, I've found Klonopin to be really powerful...but even GP's (as opposed to pdocs) aren't so hesitant to prescribe it becasue it's not thought to be particularly addictive. Both are really effective in my experience, but I prefer Klonopin so I don't have to pop four Ativans a day.

Klonopin is more potent per mg than ativan is.

Per mg, yes, but that doesn't really matter. At equivalent doeses they should work much the same.
Ativan is short to medium acting, while Klonopin is long-acting (by benzo standards). How much this matters is an individual issue. I use Xanax (even shorter acting than Ativan), which means I have to take a whole bunch of doses during the day. I personally don't find this to be a problem, though others prefer less frequent dosing and would go insane if they had to pop pills as often as I do.
